Flag
[edit]What is the source for the flag being different from the main Danish one? I've had a look around and haven't really found anything to suggest the Kingdom is represented by a separate flag. TheLegendofGanon (talk) 06:23, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- There doesn't seem to be one, it was done to copy da.wiki. CMD (talk) 06:55, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- In that case, I think the flag and coat of arms should be changed to match metropolitan Denmark's, unless a source say otherwise. TheLegendofGanon (talk) 08:34, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Unless anyone has any objections, I'm going to be WP:BOLD and carry out the changes. TheLegendofGanon (talk) 20:59, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- I see @Freedoxm: has reverted this edit. Would you mind providing a source that the flag of the Kingdom differs from that of Denmark proper? TheLegendofGanon (talk) 22:07, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- @TheLegendofGanon: I only reverted it at that time because it was in the article for a long period. If you go to the Flag of Denmark article, you'll see that it has a source for the second flag, which is the flag that I restored. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk • contribs) 22:10, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Just because something is in an article for a long time doesn't make it automatically worthy of inclusion. I looked at the article, and that particular flag is marked as the state flag (also worth noting that the source just links to another Wikipedia article, but that's not strictly relevant here). As I understand it, a state flag is simply one that is used by the government as opposed to common civilians.
- So far as I can see, there is no evidence that the Kingdom is represented by the state flag rather than the civil flag. Unless you have a source that shows otherwise? TheLegendofGanon (talk) 22:33, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- The swallow-tail splitflag "Suverænitetsflaget" means the "sovereign flag" but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's referring to the sovereign state of the Kingdom of Denmark. Dannebrogs-Samfundet says something like "The official sovereignty flag of the Kingdom of Denmark is the Dannebrog as a split flag. It is called the Flag of the Kingdom. [Rigetsflag] The split flag is the official symbol of Denmark and may only be used by state authorities and the Royal Family."[1] I don't think it would be to correct to assert that membership of the Danish Realm is the same as recognizing the Danish monarchy as the monarch of a territory because states that gain their independence can retain the monarchy as their own (see Category:Commonwealth realms for examples) but its historical use backs it up as the flag of sovreignty[2] and considering that the Kingdom is the sovereign entity of the realm this seems like the better option. We can always just caption it "Royal flag" and we don't have to claim anything about it. We equally don't have any sources to use the metropolitan flag of Denmark. I think from those sources it would be better to use the royal flag clarified as such and I am guessing we are all against having no flag. – Mullafacation『talk』 13:40, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Differences between "home rule" and "self rule"
[edit]According to Google AI, the differences between "home rule" and "self rule" are as follows:
Home Rule
Defined Sphere:
Home rule is a delegated authority, meaning a higher level of government (state) grants specific powers to a lower level (municipality).
Specific Powers:
The powers granted under home rule are usually enumerated and defined, allowing the local government to legislate on certain matters within its jurisdiction.
Examples:
Home rule might allow a city to set its own zoning regulations, manage its own finances, or create its own local ordinances, as long as they don't conflict with state or federal law.
State-Local Relationship:
Home rule fundamentally involves a relationship between a state and its municipalities, where the state grants some degree of autonomy to the local government.
Self-Rule
Broader Scope:
Self-rule can refer to the ability of a region or nation to govern itself, potentially encompassing all aspects of its political, economic, and social life.
Not Necessarily Delegated:
Unlike home rule, self-rule doesn't always involve a delegation of authority from a higher power. It can be a inherent right or a political aspiration.
Examples:
Self-rule might involve a region gaining independence from a larger nation, or a nation achieving full sovereignty.
Conceptual Framework:
Self-rule often operates within a broader framework of political theory and nationalism, encompassing ideas about self-determination and national identity.
Does that mean Greenland (currently under self rule) has the option to declare independence from Denmark while the Faroe Islands (currently under home rule) has no such option? 2001:8003:9060:601:89EA:709A:2006:EB62 (talk) 09:59, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
