The places: a day full of great discoveries, culminating in Oliwa Cathedral which was called a must-see by Graham Waterhouse (subject of my first article, filling a red link) who played the organ once. Dinner right next to the Abbot's Palace, where Penderecki had also been a guest.
The story: Bazon Brock spoke at an exhibition at Kolumba to honour Anna and Bernhard Blume on her 80th birthday. [1] Did you know "An Anna Blume"? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:06, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
Thank you today for the rescue for Concerto delle donne! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:47, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
Palestrina? The hatnote says that Palestrina is the location, not a surname, but the article begins with "Palestrina". Can you help with Missa brevis (Palestrina)? (If Palestrina should not be used like a surname - but that is common - shouldn't that article be moved?) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:50, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Good catch. I suppose the hatnote is technically correct, but since sources always go by his surname in this case, its inclusion is misleading. I've removed it! Aza24 (talk) 22:59, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
Stravinsky pictured on his birthday + Vienna pics - but too many who died + I have a "defiant" cantata up for GA --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:34, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt I hope things have been going well on your end. I've been tied up IRL, but hope to do some more editing this June. In July I'll be too busy to edit, but from August onwards I can hopefully tackle some big projects! Any suggestions would be welcome, maybe Pachelbel, as you mentioned some time ago? Aza24 (talk) 23:00, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, especially for the Palestrina relief! - The defiant cantata found a reviewer and another who added lilypond for the unusual closing chorale. - Today look at the autograph of Beethoven's last piano sonata and listen to a pianist who wanted to serve the compositions most of all. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:00, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'll hear today's topic in concert, - you can listen before I do because it was streamed yesterday and I go today (because I like Ravel's piano piano concerto) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:40, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for looking at Bach and his oratorio. Do you think Bach should be even GA at this point? - I don't think that 31 March needs a source, the 10 days difference just come from the calendar adjustment. - I never saw or heard an octobass before, and had it right before me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:51, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- While you are of course invited to check out my recommendations any day, today offers unusually a great writer of novels, music with light and a place with exquisite food. - Palestrina tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:45, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- No, I don't think Bach should have passed GA. I fear this is too much taken for granted with some of these big-topic articles. I believe before FA we can get it into much better shape. @Gerda Arendt, will you have a hand at writing a 1–2 paragraphs on his Cantatas at some point? Aza24 (talk) 23:45, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- We have 200+ articles on cantatas, several overviews articles, the concept of a cantata is unfamiliar to readers, same for the liturgical year, his chorale cantatas are unlike other composers' chorale cantatas: tough job ;) - We'll sing the Palestrina Missa brevis today, and the article is still in the same shape ... but Easter Oratorio and some articles of people who died were improved! I would like to get BWV 79 ready for it's anniversary, and BWV 8 to match the others ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:27, 29 June 2025 (UTC)

The 2025 Core Contest Winners!
[edit]The winners of the 2025 Core Contest are announced 🎉. An great turnout with a impressive variety of articles and laudable improvements. The judges (Aza24, Femke and Casliber) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners.
- First place (and a prize of £120) goes to Phlsph7 (talk · contribs) for his systemic overhaul of the Political Philosophy article. What was once an unwieldy entry—dominated by a sprawling history section of nearly three dozen subsections!—is now an accessible and well-structured survey of a complex and often polarizing subject. We particularly commend Phlsph7’s global, inclusive, and comprehensive approach. He has once again demonstrated exceptional skill in handling core topics with clarity and balance.
- Second place (and a prize of £100) goes to Dracophyllum (talk · contribs) for their outstanding work on both Trunk and Flower. The former was reimagined from a ~200 word stub into a richly detailed and impeccably sourced overview—an effort truly worthy of its dedicatee, the late and much-missed Vami IV. Meanwhile, their improvements to the Flower article transformed an already strong entry into an exceptional one, now well on its way to passing FAC.
- Third place (and a prize of £80) goes to Vigilantcosmicpenguin (talk · contribs) for his major development of the Niamey article. The entry now proudly stands among the finest city articles on Wikipedia—from thirty scattered references to nearly 400 high-quality academic sources. We particularly commend his inclusion of numerous French-language sources and thoughtfully comprehensive approach to the topic.
If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list. – Aza24 (talk) 21:11, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

Check out my talk, - if you have little time, listen to Gilda Cruz-Romo in the final scene of Aida, if you have more read her article, and if you have still more check out my music, some sung with me in choir, some played by friends, all heard with friends. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:23, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
Nicolai Gedda would have been 100 today. If you have little time, just listen to his flower song. If you have more read about Helena Tattermuschová, the cunning little vixen. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:27, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
Perhaps you can listen to yesterday's concert of all Brahms. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:02, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- What a nice concert, thank you for sharing! I'm surprised to have never heard of Gedda, but his voice is quite lovely. – Aza24 (talk) 21:43, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! - I remember a 2016 TFA in today's story, in memory of 16 July 1916. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:24, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Three Ukrainian topics were on the main page today, at least at the beginning, RD and DYK, - see my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:43, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
- Three of "my" recent deaths bios are on the main page right now, one my story today, Gary Karr, and I loved to find his breakthrough concert in 1962 as a video. In my music today I match it with 9 other double bassists, 7 conducted by a person who's birthday is today - coincidence ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:51, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- On Bach's day of death, I decorated my user pages in memory of his music, and my story ends on "peace". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:53, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Jahrhundertring remembered today, with the picture of a woman who can't believe what she has to see. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:19, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

Odyssey PR
[edit]Hello, Aza! A long time ago, you asked if I planned to nominate the Odyssey at FAC. I've recently fallen back into the editing the article and think, down the line, this may actually be feasible. If you're interested, I'd be very grateful to receive feedback at the open peer review, where you can see some of the current plans. — ImaginesTigers 21:45, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- @ImaginesTigers Glad to hear this! I will certainly find time to comment there this week. Aza24 (talk) 17:25, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Brilliant! Right now, I am smashing my head together with UndercoverClassicist to work out how to handle Reception. If you are interested, you can see a (much bigger) version of the Reception section on this sandbox (which merges material concerning translations). I've also put together Draft:Translations of the Odyssey, where there is some ongoing discussion at the draft talk. My apologies for everything being quite spread apart (although it reflects my current mental state quite well!). – ImaginesTigers 17:30, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- @ImaginesTigers No need to apologize. I was just looking through my 12 (!) sandboxes, to find just as many incomplete projects... I would certainly be interested in lending a hand for reception; the music, of course, being my specialty, but I might be able to advise on the other aspects as well. Aza24 (talk) 17:34, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Your hand at music would be brilliant. I would feel much more at peace with some support there! The current thinking is to prefer a strictly chronological approach rather than splitting by medium. I am a little worried such an attempt would lose some valuable analysis, but I can see the virtues. There is simply so much reception than including even a sentence for analysis for every item would very quickly overrun the article.
- I expect the PR to run for at least another month or so. Hopefully my side of reception should be finished in the near future, then I'll turn my attention to other parts, and likely finishing up by rewriting the section on theme. – ImaginesTigers 17:53, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
[edit]
Hi Aza24, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.
This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:
- Add Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers to your watchlist to follow NPP-related discussions
- If you use Twinkle, configure it to log your CSDs and PRODs
- If you can read any languages other than English, add yourself to the list of reviewers with language proficiencies
You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! signed, Rosguill talk 15:29, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
