  2. Any of various tools used to construct or finish joints, especially:
    1. (woodworking) The largest kind of plane used by a joiner.
    2. (construction) A pointing-trowel.
    3. A bent piece of iron for riveting two stones together.
  3. An equivalent machine, notably used to produce a flat surface on boards.
  4. A part of some ploughs, near the coulter, that helps control the flow of stubble and trash, better ensuring that it gets buried when the moldboard turns the soil over.
