Common questions, answered
Everything you need to know before installing Site Calendar Lite or buying Pro. Click any question to expand the answer.
1 What's the difference between Site Calendar Lite and Site Calendar Pro?
Lite is the free calendar engine. It gives you a clean, mobile-friendly events calendar with month and list views, venues, organisers, free RSVP, and a single shortcode ([pro_calendar]) to drop into any page.
Pro is an add-on for Lite that unlocks recurring events, paid ticketing through Stripe or WooCommerce, branded confirmation emails, QR-coded door check-in, custom fields, CSV import and front-end event submission. You install both — Pro extends Lite rather than replacing it, so you keep all your events, venues, organisers and settings.
2 Do I need to install Lite first before buying Pro?
Yes — Pro is an add-on, not a standalone plugin. WordPress will refuse to activate Pro until Lite is installed and active. After purchase, your account dashboard shows a Step 1 (Download Lite, free) and Step 2 (Download Pro) panel with both download buttons in the right order. The welcome email contains the same two links.
3 How much does Site Calendar Pro cost?
Three annual subscription plans: Single £49/year (one site), Plus £199/year (up to five sites), and Agency £599/year (unlimited sites). All plans include automatic updates, priority email support, and a full 30-day money-back guarantee. See pricing →
4 What happens when my licence expires?
Your calendar keeps working forever — your events, venues, attendees and tickets are never locked or removed. What stops is access to plugin updates and priority support. We strongly recommend keeping your licence renewed for security patches, WordPress compatibility, and bug fixes.
If a renewal payment fails, your licence enters a 14-day grace period before deactivating, so a temporary card issue won't break your site.
5 Can I move my licence to a different site?
Yes. Sign in to your account dashboard, click Websites, and use the Release button next to any activated site to free up the slot. You can then activate Pro on a different WordPress site immediately. There's no limit on how often you can move licences between sites.
6 Does Site Calendar work with my WordPress theme?
Yes. Site Calendar inherits your theme's typography and colours through standard WordPress styling, so it looks at home on any well-built theme — Blocksy, Astra, GeneratePress, Kadence, Twenty Twenty-Four, or any block theme. It works in classic themes, block themes, and page builders (Elementor, Bricks, Beaver Builder, Divi). The frontend uses semantic HTML and minimal scoped CSS so it doesn't fight your theme's design.
7 Will it slow down my website?
No. Site Calendar is built lean — Lite is under 100 KB and Pro under 200 KB. CSS and JavaScript only load on pages that actually contain a calendar shortcode, so your homepage, blog and product pages are unaffected. Database queries are indexed and cached, and the calendar grid renders in a single query for the entire month.
8 Can I sell tickets without a Stripe account?
Yes — Pro supports two payment gateways:
Stripe is the simplest. Sign up at stripe.com (free, instant), paste your API keys into Settings, and you're taking payments. Stripe Checkout handles cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, and more.
WooCommerce uses your existing WC payment gateways (PayPal, Stripe, Square, etc.). Tickets become hidden virtual products so all your usual WooCommerce reports, accounting and customer accounts continue to work.
Free RSVP (no payment) is available in both Lite and Pro.
9 How does the QR-code door check-in work?
Every confirmation email contains a unique QR code for that ticket. On the day, your door staff visit a page on your own site containing the [pro_calendar_checkin] shortcode. Their phone camera scans the attendee's QR code, the page validates the ticket against the event, and admits or rejects them with a colour-coded result. A live counter shows how many of your capacity has arrived.
No app to install, no extra hardware needed — works in mobile Safari and Chrome. There's a dedicated Scanner role for door staff that gives them check-in access without admin permissions.
10 Can I import events from another calendar plugin?
Yes. Pro includes a CSV bulk-import tool that handles up to 500 events per upload. Required columns are title and start_date; optional columns include description, end_date, start_time, end_time, venue, organiser, category, and any custom fields you've defined. Most calendar plugins (The Events Calendar, Modern Events Calendar, Calendarize It, EventOn) can export to CSV, which you then map to Site Calendar's columns in the import preview screen.
11 Is Site Calendar GDPR-compliant?
Yes. All attendee data is stored in your own WordPress database — we don't transmit any personal data to our servers. Your only outbound connection is licence validation (key + site URL) for plugin updates, which contains no customer data. Stripe handles payment data on its own PCI-compliant infrastructure; we never see card numbers. Your privacy policy can simply add a note that ticket purchases use Stripe (or WooCommerce) as the payment processor.
12 What happens to my events if I deactivate Pro?
Nothing is lost. Lite continues to display all your events, venues, organisers, and free RSVP attendees. Pro-only data (recurring patterns, paid ticket sales, custom fields) remains in your database untouched — if you reactivate Pro later it picks up where it left off. Deactivating Pro is reversible and non-destructive.
13 Do I get refunds for unused months on my subscription?
Within the first 30 days of purchase, yes — full refund, no questions asked. After 30 days, subscriptions cancel at the end of the current billing period (your licence stays active until then), and we don't pro-rate partial refunds for the remaining time. We never auto-renew silently — Stripe sends a renewal reminder before each charge.
14 How do I get support if something goes wrong?
Pro customers get priority email support directly from the team that built it — no ticket queues, no first-line offshoring. Most queries are answered within one business day, urgent issues (site down, payment failure) within a few hours.
Lite users get community support via the WordPress.org plugin support forum. The full user guide, shortcode reference, and how-to articles are also built into the plugin's Help tab on every install — no need to search the web.
Still have a question? Email support@getsitecalendar.com — we usually reply within a few hours.
