Transcription and translation #448

Description

When a variant is registered in AnyVar, its transcripted and/or translated forms should also be computed and stored as well, if applicable. We should store mappings between these in both directions.

Example

Say a genomic variant is registered in AnyVar. Upon registration, AnyVar should do the following:

  1. Store the genomic variant
  2. Compute the resulting transcript variant and store that
  3. Compute the resulting protein variant and store that
  4. Store the following relationships:
source variant destination variant relationship
genomic variant transcript variant transcribes_to
transcript variant genomic variant transcribes_from
transcript variant protein variant translates_to
protein variant transcript variant translates_from

* Note that this is an example; devs can use whatever terminology/storage/formatting, etc. that they'd like.

⚠️ Supported Variant Types

AnyVar should support transcription/translation for the following variant types:

  • SNVs
  • ?????

Acceptance Criteria

  1. Genomic variants:

    • Given a genomic variant of any of the types listed above,
    • When it is registered in AnyVar,
    • Then the coding and protein variants are computed and stored,
    • And the bidirectional mappings of these variants are stored as well
  2. Transcript variants:

    • Given a transcript variant of any of the types listed above,
    • When it is registered in AnyVar,
    • Then the genomic and protein variants are computed and stored,
    • And the bidirectional mappings of these variants are stored as well
