Bug in notifications

For a few weeks I have no notification listed (shown) but GH still insists I have a few. Here is a screenshot to show this a bit annoying issue as it makes me not to look to notifications anymore — no good experience with other projects where I can't answer in time.

First of all, what clearing means in term of "Done" folder? There is no such option. All items there marked "Done". Do you mean unsubscribing? If so, not an option. I want to be subscribed to selected items.
Second, "fixes itself after a bit" doesn't define the period of that, the bug appeared somewhat a few weeks ago.

This happens when GitHub’s unread counter gets out of sync. A few quick things you can try:

• Check all filters (Assigned, Participating, Mentioned, etc.) — sometimes one unread item is hidden there.
• Hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R).
• Log out and back in.
• As a last option, use the API to mark everything as read:
• PUT https://api.github.com/notifications

If the number still doesn’t reset, it’s just a GitHub UI bug — it usually fixes itself after some time.

It's very nasty and has to be fixed. Bad user experience what comes out of it :-(

1. As you may see, there are "1" near to a couple of things (and TBH I even don't remember to participate in that repository) and of course the boxes are all empty in the UI. So, not Filters.
2. Doesn't give anything, this was tried so-o many times.
3. No comments, the same as 2.
4. Nope, it's GH problem, not mine, I don't want to go to the depth of API, it's not user friendly approach. If it can be done like this, there should be a button in UI "Mark everything read" or so.
5. As answered to the previous comment, the "some time" are months? years?

Hey @andy-shev, this was likely due to notifications from spammy repositories and users not being correctly hidden. We just shipped a major improvement how these notifications are handled, so you won't see inaccurate notification counts anymore. You can check out more details in our changelog. I'm going to mark it as answer, but I will continue monitoring and will post a new report in case I observe the issue again.
