1-core 5 GB machine type for Codespaces? #185066

Select Topic AreaQuestion BodyHello, there was an announcement in the Github blog about this new machine type being available as a Github Actions runner. Any chance of introducing it for Codespaces too, to double the time allowance for low computation work? |

I looked into this, and unfortunately, that new 1-core machine is only for GitHub Actions (the automation tool), not for Codespaces. The main reason is that the 1-core machine has a 15-minute time limit per task, which wouldn't work for a coding environment where you need to stay logged in for hours. For now, the 2-core machine remains the smallest option available for Codespaces. If you want to save on your free hours, your best bet is to go into your settings and shorten the 'idle timeout' so it shuts down sooner when you aren't using it! |
