This dill burger sauce might be a copycat of the In-N-Out burger spread, but it’s got all the sweet, tangy, bright, nostalgic flavors of a classic diner. The ketchup-and-mayo combo provides a smooth, creamy base for the zesty, diced dill pickle. It’s a 5-minute flavor bomb perfect to use as a spread, dipping sauce, and more!

In-N-Out Copycat Burger Spread

If you’ve ever tried the viral In-N-Out Flying Dutchman copycat from my YouTube video, you already know how incredible this sauce is. It has the same smooth, creamy, sweet, and tangy foundation as my homemade burger sauce thanks to the ketchup-mayo base. The diced dill pickles enhance the brightness from the distilled white vinegar while adding a lovely crunch to contrast the smooth sauce. A little sugar helps balance everything out for a versatile spread you absolutely need to have on hand the next time you sling burgers.

Ingredients for Dill Burger Sauce (In-N-Out copycat spread)

With just 5 common ingredients, this recipe couldn’t be easier to bring together. Here’s what you’ll want on hand so you can get started:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup dill pickle relish (or sweet pickle relish)
  • 1 Tablespoon distilled white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

This amount of spread will cover 8 to 16 burgers, depending on how saucy you like to get. If you’re feeding a big crowd, you can double (or triple) the batch easily using the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

How to Make In-N-Out Burger Sauce (Dill Burger Sauce)

There’s no cooking involved when making this burger sauce. Just follow these simple steps and you’ll have a knockout spread for burgers and more:

  1. Make the burger sauce. Grab a small bowl (or large bowl if you’re doubling the batch), and add the mayonnaise, ketchup, diced pickles, vinegar, and sugar. Use a whisk to gently mix everything together. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the pickles are evenly distributed.
  2. Spread and enjoy. Your sauce is ready to use right away, but it gets better with a little time. Set your sauce aside so the flavors can meld and intensify as you grill your favorite burgers. I typically use about 1 Tablespoon of sauce on each side of the bun. If you like a cleaner bite, you can go with less.

Ways to Enjoy Dill Burger Sauce

I originally made this sauce to go along with my version of the In-N-Out Flying Dutchman burger, but quickly discovered it’s great on all kinds of things. I’ve served it with most of my favorite burgers, and my family always loves it. This smooth sauce adds a touch of zesty flavor to any sandwich you spread it on, works as a tangy dip, and does a whole lot more. Here are some of my favorite ways to use it:

Storage and Shelf Life

Talking about how long this sauce lasts is mostly hypothetical because you’ll likely eat it all in the first go. But just in case… Because of the mayo, you’ll want to store any remaining sauce in an airtight container in your refrigerator after use. I love these hinged glass Mason jars for storing sauce, but any airtight container will work. Your sauce will remain fresh and tangy for up to 2 weeks when stored this way.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup dill pickle relish or sweet pickle relish
  • 1 Tablespoon distilled white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  • Make the burger sauce. Combine the mayo, ketchup, diced pickles, vinegar, and sugar in a small bowl. Mix everything gently with a whisk until the sugar dissolves and the pickles are evenly distributed.
1 cup mayonnaise, ½ cup ketchup, ½ cup dill pickle relish, 1 Tablespoon distilled white vinegar, 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Spread and enjoy. Your burger sauce is ready to use immediately, but the flavors of the sauce will intensify if you let it set while cooking your burgers. I typically use about 1 Tablespoon of sauce on each side of the bun.
  • Store leftover sauce. Because of the mayo, you’ll want to store any sauce you won’t be using in an airtight container in your refrigerator.
