Dec 30, 2015 at 20:13 comment added Alex Of course Hitler would be delighted to take everything without major war. Suppose that Poland was given to him without a major war. Then soon another annexation would happen. And another, are there any doubts in this ?
May 15, 2015 at 10:40 comment added Greg @Drux It seem he wasn't the only delusional. France, UK, Soviets, Poland all made very strange assumptions about their military capabilities. The Polish army actually expected to withstand a German invasion, and rapidly push back the German army so their strategy was mostly based on these assumptions. Also, the Germans were not aware of the development of Soviet tanks (e.g. T34), as no-one knew.
Oct 7, 2014 at 9:23 comment added jwenting @Drux based on prior experience against the Poles and French, the major military powers on the continent apart from Germany and the USSR, and the well known sorry state of the Soviet armed forces at the start of the war, it was actually a pretty decent estimate. The amount of resistance the Soviets put up, and the effectiveness of it, came as a rude surprise to the Germans, and even then they in many areas swept them away quickly.

Dec 30, 2013 at 8:23 comment added Drux I would have to look a reference (hence a comment), but Hitler was often deluded about military matters in major ways: e.g. when he ordered the invasion of the Soviet Union, he expected the troops to reach Moscow in a few (4 or 5?) weeks ...

Apr 27, 2013 at 17:52 comment added Sardathrion - against SE abuse I was being a little flippant in my comment. Hitler's actions, whatever they were, never prompted more than a stern word from the rest of the international community. It seems logical that Hitler would assume that invading Poland would not raise any much more objection especially since he was allied with the Soviets. But this is just speculation on my part thus the "joke" and comment instead of an answer ^_~

Apr 27, 2013 at 13:53 comment added fortytwo @Sardathrion. But, until that point(Sept, 1939) there was only one invasion, Italy's invasion of Ethiopia (1935) and she failed. Hitler annexed, not invaded, Austria(1938). Please enlighten me on the invasions of Hitler before 1939, my search on internet is not fruitful.

Apr 26, 2013 at 22:25 comment added Darek Wędrychowski OK, after getting to know more facts about Taylor, I think the question should be rather "did" than "why", because we speak here about private theories of Taylor, unless you provide on what facts his opinion is based. Then we can refer to them.
Apr 26, 2013 at 22:11 comment added Darek Wędrychowski Can you please provide that quote in a longer paragraph, so we can know the exact context of these words before answering?
Apr 26, 2013 at 20:16 comment added yannis Hitler's long term intentions are still heavily debated. Lots of opinions, but nothing conclusive I'm afraid.
