I was running through Claude Max and GPT Pro subscriptions in under two days. The fix wasn't a bigger budget — it was six rounds of adversarial debate between GPT 5.5, Claude Opus, and a developer who was tired of pasting the same prompt every session.

A multi-hundred-page PDF export was timing out in the browser, and my first three attempts didn't help. The fix ended up being a parallel queue with the concurrency dial set to 1 — and a single dynamic import I'd been paying for over and over.

I shipped a working fix for a cross-tab theme flash. It synced. It didn't flash. I opened a PR. Then I reviewed my own diff with no mercy and found seven things wrong with it — two sources of truth, a stale event masquerading as state, a freshness check that wasn't, and a first-paint guarantee that was wishful thinking. So I threw it out and rewrote it.
