Resilience is not just about weathering the storm; it is about moving forward together with purpose, sensitivity, and solidarity. 💡🌧️
We're in a time now where no major climate event is complete, it seems, without a major weather event to remind us of the stakes!
Following the recent severe flooding in Bangkok, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who reached out with messages of concern and support.
Thankfully, the rains have eased, floodwaters have receded, and recovery efforts are underway across the capital. Central infrastructure, hotels, and all event venues are fully operational. I am relieved and delighted to share that
Bangkok Climate Action Week (BKKCAW) 2026 is officially proceeding as planned, starting this Saturday!
As we prepare to welcome you, here are a few important updates and reflections:
🌤️ For Our International Attendees: While the skies have cleared, we are still in the rainy season. Please practice prudence. We advise allowing extra travel time for potential traffic or localized disruptions. Pack an umbrella, a raincoat, and suitable footwear. Rest assured, all outdoor and Main Stage events have robust, sheltered backup plans (and my team and I even visited the temple this morning to pray for clear skies!).
🤝 Moving Forward with Sensitivity: Our team deeply deliberated whether to scale back the festive elements of our program out of respect for those whose lives were disrupted by the floods. Ultimately, we resolved to move ahead with sensitivity and solidarity. True resilience includes joy. We were profoundly inspired by our own team members who, despite having their own homes flooded, kept going with incredible stoicism, humor, and dedication.
🌍 A Signal of Action: BKKCAW 2026 is our collective moment to flex our muscles of solidarity. Our Energy Cluster Lead,
Peter du Pont, said it beautifully: while it will not fix the flooding, coming together at this time "sends a strong signal to our communities: we are aware, we care, and we are mobilized to take action where we can."
If you would like to contribute to the local relief efforts in any way, please reach out to us directly, and we will gladly connect you with vetted initiatives.
See you all soon in Bangkok! Let’s turn shared challenges into shared action.
