The main reason lifespans were so short in the past was because so many kids died of disease that it pushed the avg lifespan down with it. I used to work to restore old cemeteries with my local historical society. I’d find family plots that would have 3-4 kids all dying within a few months of each other.

Ugh, /pics is a real dumpster fire. Mods run it like a business, everything must be bland and mindless.

I got past my ban by just waiting a few months. I guess they drop banned IPs after a while. Had to make a new account of course.

You have to be very bland and innocuous now. Even calling a 3rd person an idiot is enough to get your comment deleted so you have to constantly check yourself “Is this comment boring and milktoast enough to survive?”

I find fewer and fewer reasons to go to it. I mute many of the annoying subs from my feed. I avoid the ones that are just echo chambers. This leaves a pretty small list and they are getting very repetative.

I’ve already run into one trash mod on lemmy but thankfully they are rarer than on reddit.
