Remote access is offered only to the six institutions listed in this guide. Registered users from other Texas Medical Center (TMC) institutions have Walk-in Access to our full collection of resources.
The TMC Library offers resource access in accordance with contractual agreements with various publishers. Your level of access is determined by your institutional affiliation.
For more information on your institution's access level, please see this page: https://library.tmc.edu/library-access-membership-program/
OpenAthens is an identity and access management service that permits our authorized users access to the resources licensed by The TMC Library. The user's right to access is validated by using either their institutional login credentials, or a generic login created by the user.
The OpenAthens login option displays when you click on an access link at the TMC Library website, or when you go directly to one of our resource provider sites. Once you’ve logged in at one site, you should not need to log in again unless you’ve ended your browser session.
With OpenAthens, you can bookmark your favorite resources licensed by the TMC Library, and use them from anywhere on the web. The drop down menu for logging in is shown below:

BCM, UTHealth and MDA users do not need to register for OpenAthens. They will be recognized by their institutional email account.
Users from these institutions will need to complete a library registration form:
First, get a library card number from The TMC Library to register for remote access. Within two days, your institution should verify your affiliation. OpenAthens then sends you an email with a link and an activation code to set up your individual login. The activation code expires after 10 days.
