Usually, when an answer doesn’t solve a problem, that solution will either get downvotes or will simply be left behind.

Getting feedback for why your answer wasn't accepted or why it got a downvote will further benefit the user that tried to solve the problem and the critic. I am not asking the high rep users to provide feedback but the ones that asked the question.

Why isn’t such an important feature added to the platform?

A similar question might be already answered, but in my case, I ask why not get feedback on your answer even if not downvoted? Answers shouldn’t simply get ghosted.

I understand that this can get messy on a big scale; that’s why users can choose the answers they want to get feedback to.

    When would you want feedback that nothing happened? Daily? High rep users would get thousands of notices that their answers were not accepted today despite thousands of their other answers being accepted. You get notice when an answer is accepted so if you don't get any notice then you can assume it isn't. Commented Apr 5, 2025 at 8:43

  • Usually a question doesn’t get more than 3 answers. Only if it is a very old one that might have 10 added over the time. Commented Apr 5, 2025 at 8:47

    There's already mechanisms for feedback to be given to answers (comments, votes). If the question author decides not to use those how do you expect the site to force them to do so? Also isn't the absence of any feedback itself a form of feedback? Either people didn't read it yet or didn't find it useful enough or maybe people found it useful but weren't able to vote or didn't want to vote. Commented Apr 5, 2025 at 8:47

    "I ask why ... simply got ghosted" because some askers just don't return after posting questions. It's better to always assume that you will not get any responses after answering questions and move on to other answerable questions. If your answers are good, then in the long run, other people may upvote them, regardless of the asker's feedback. That is the model of Stack Overflow. Commented Apr 5, 2025 at 8:57

    You have the misconception that answers can be "rejected". The only thing that can happen is an answer is accepted (and unaccepted after it was accepted), upvoted or downvoted. Commented Apr 5, 2025 at 17:04

The person who asked the question is often ill suited to judge the answers since most of the time they don't know what the correct answer is.

We rely on the collective judgement of all who read it. The votes give feedback both to everyone else, as well as the authors of the question and the answer.

What you are looking for is an explanation of why your answer isn't the best solution. You can post a new question about it or if you think it's about the way you wrote it then you can come and ask on meta.
