At Picnic, we aim to deliver groceries efficiently and sustainably, but that only works if our systems can keep up. Our slotting algorithm (which decides when we deliver to which customer) was slowing us down. So instead of patching it up (again), we rebuilt it. From scratch. While his day-to-day involves “𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴,” building a game required a new kind of thinking: “𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘯. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯.” The idea for Toteris came from a chat with colleague Maya: “𝘞𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢 ‘𝘛𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘗𝘪𝘤𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘭 𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘴,’ 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘺 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘴.” The result? A charmingly chaotic grocery-stacking game — complete with flying products and a deadly laser or two. 😏 “𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦—𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴.
