Jay Davenport will meet you with a warm smile and bounding enthusiasm. Assuming the role of Penn State’s Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations on March 1, Davenport brings years of leadership experience in higher education fundraising including at Wake Forest, Rice University, and most recently as Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and VCU Health. Originally born in DuBois, Pennsylvania, Davenport also brings a lifelong love for Nittany Lion football, the state’s natural beauty, and the one-of-a-kind community that has defined Penn State for generations. Here, Davenport reflects on his Penn State arrival—and his vision for what the University can become.
