I watched it about ten years ago. It was on tv.I suspect it was made a few years after Stargate (also starring Amanda Tapping.) There is a human from another dimension who accidentally changes form in crossing dimensions. First he is an intelligent, talking rubber duck.Later the hollow rubber duck hatches to reveal a tentacled monster. This monster soon grows to be huge and dangerous.

The job of this spaceship is to collect garbage from Earth's orbit, thereby making the chance of dangerous collisions less. They also make some money selling the objects they collect.

The actor playing the captain had a Scottish accent and used some Scottish slang. I remember him calling the tentacled monster a jobbie. I did not recognise the actor, so I don't know if he was actually Scottish.

Can anyone remember the title of the movie please. It made me laugh.

Space Milkshake (2012)...?

From Wikipedia:

A mutant rubber ducky named Gary terrorizes four workers who are stranded on a sanitation space station. Meanwhile, Earth is inexplicably devoid of life. The crew must now work together to defeat the mutant rubber duck and figure out the strange device that has also appeared on the ship.

The actor playing Captain Anton, Billy Boyd, is indeed Scottish.

The question already has an accepted answer, but I wanted to leave an answer that shows OP and others how to identify a TV show or movie where you know something about the show in question.

IMDB has an advanced search:

IDMB Advanced search

With the advanced search, you can search for:

  • Titles (find movies and TV shows by year, type, keywords, ...)
  • Names (find people by awards, birth date/year, credits, ...)
  • Collaborations (find a title starring two named actors, name the actors who starred in the same two titles)

For your question, we want the Title search.

  • You said it was a movie, so select Title type: Movie, also TV Movie just to be safe
  • It's comedy science fiction, so select Genre: Comedy and Sci-Fi
  • The rubber duck is a unique touch, so under Keywords: type rubber duck
  • You said you watched it about 10 years ago, so let's say the year was no later than 2021 to allow for a faulty memory. Select Release date and enter 2021 in the "to" year box.
  • Finally, click See results

Your search includes the terms:

  • Movie
  • TV Movie
  • Comedy
  • Sci-Fi
  • Keyword: "rubber duck"
  • Release Date: before December 31, 2021

search terms

This gives two results, which you should easily be able to narrow down to the one you're looking for:

  • Muppets from Space (1999), but if it had been muppets or puppets or other animation, you probably would have noted that detail.
  • The other result, as noted in the accepted answer, is Space Milkshake (2012).

The Advanced Search doesn't always result in an immediate exact answer like this, so sometimes you might need to add or remove criteria or adjust your keywords, but it's pretty powerful.
