The Viet Minh (also known as Vietnamese Independence League, or Việt Nam Độc Lập Đồng Minh Hội) was an Vietnamese organization who fought for Vietnam's independence from France.

It was founded by Hồ Học Lãm in 1935 or 1936. The Indochinese Communist Party took control in 1941. It fought against Japan during World War II with help from the United States and the Republic of China.

After World War II ended, the Viet Minh fought against France during the First Indochina War. They won the war and Vietnam was independent, but it was split into two countries, North Vietnam and South Vietnam due to the Geneva Conference which temporarily divided two nations until a general election in 1956 to decide who to rule an unified Vietnam. It did not happen because Ngo Dinh Diem and the U.S. opposed it, eventually causing the Vietnam War.
