comment Can I add "padding" not relevant to the review to reach the minimum required word count?
Perhaps you can take more time to summarize the paper or the broader literature it fits into. 300 words doesn't sound like a lot to me (but maybe this is area dependent?).

comment Accepting a maths postdoc position at a low-rank university
@pyrochlor Sure, the fit is very important and the PI/mentor can make a huge difference. But in my area (pure math, non-lab, which I thought was similar to Buffy's) I haven't generally noticed "more requirements" (actual duties) at higher-ranked institutions. More pressure, possibly, but I can also imagine lab-sciences are very different.

A high ranking institution would likely have more requirements (not always) making your personal advancement harder. - Sorry, I don't understand this line. I expect better schools to generally provide better opportunities and resources for one's professional development.

comment Some books recommendation by which I can know about what's happening in current mathematics research in Pure mathematics?
They publish articles aimed at general mathematicians - Quanta is nice, but all articles I remember reading there are at more of a popular science level. I would say things like Notices and Bull AMS are more aimed at general mathematicians.

Overall similarity is 30% - What do these numbers mean? How is an overall similarity percentage more than the sum of the individual ones?

comment Lack of logic in the AMS non-recognition of referee reports vs math reviews
@VladimirDotsenko While it's not a major factor, at my previous university, refereeing was certainly one of the activities that counted towards your service duties, and they asked you to report on these things for annual evaluations.

comment Lack of logic in the AMS non-recognition of referee reports vs math reviews
At some point I had a discussion with some people from the AMS about providing some recognition to referees, and while they didn't seem opposed to the idea, IIRC one person said refereeing for journals is typically part of expected faculty duties that they are paid for by their institutions.

comment Rejection at a top mathematics journal after serious consideration
Stanley: what I meant was the editor may have gotten 12 quick opinions in your case not because they always require that, but say, they got an initial batch but didn't feel it was enough to make a decision and then solicited more. Anyway, I was just surprised because 12 sounds like a lot to me.

Does any journal actually require 12 quick opinions?

comment How to tackle the feelings of being overwhelmed in a tenure-track position?
These problems are not unique to academia - While the problems aren't unique, the job is rather so: typically less rigid schedules, deadlines, management/collaborative structure, ...

Better for what? There's the Moore method which is in this direction.

comment Is there a lattice-theoretic criterion favoring the CM point j=1728 over j=0 based on orthogonal decomposability?
I don't understand what you're looking for. When you look for short vectors, you can test for orthogonality and select those if you find them. Can you be more precise/give an example of what you want?

comment Generating functions for tensor L-functions of $\mathrm{GL}_m \times \mathrm{GL}_n$
I think you may want the unramified calculation for Rankin-Selberg integrals (which is an integral over GL(n) rather than a product group. Cogdell's notes from the Fields Institute are a good overview reference.

comment Where to get feedback on a math paper?
Otherwise, just try to make your paper as nice and as clear as possible, and submit it to a journal. - I would say otherwise, try to find a mentor/mathematical community (e.g., go to local seminars).

comment Is it appropriate to blacklist an author for submitting a paper with non-existent references?
@curiousdannii That's partly why I proposed something more strict than a warning. But you also can't try to educate them before you discover their misbehavior, which may be after several offenses.

comment Can I recommend my potential Ph.D. supervisor to a journal as a reviewer for my manuscript?
My initial thought was to recommend someone I cited in my manuscript, but I realized that he had probably gone trough my reference list already - Probably, but unless you only cite a few authors, it's quite likely they haven't asked everyone you cited.
