Studio Visit with GihhBloonde

For this Studio Visit, we're sitting down with Geovana, better known on DA as GihhBloonde, a Brazilian digital artist and character designer with a love for pastels, fantasy, and characters full of personality. She's been sharing her colorful world of original characters, adoptables, and pony-inspired artwork online for years, and she's not slowing down anytime soon.

What are your 3 non-essential essentials when you're in your studio?

Banana chips, my water bottle, and my cat, Serafine!

Those three have basically become part of my work environment at this point. I love snacking on banana chips while I draw, I always keep water nearby, and Serafine always finds a way to be involved, even if she’s just hanging around while I work.

What are you obsessed with right now? 

Right now, I’m completely obsessed with traveling. I want to discover new places, see different landscapes, try new things, and experience more outside my usual routine. It’s been a very different era of my life, and I’ve been allowing myself to explore the world around me a lot more.

This is from a recent trip to Aparecida, and I think it represents this phase of my life really well!

What are your thoughts on the Halloween holiday?

Halloween isn’t traditionally celebrated in Brazil on the same scale as it is in places like the United States, so a lot of my connection to it came from American movies, TV shows, cartoons, and pop culture while I was growing up.

I was always fascinated by the parties, costumes, witches, vampires, monsters, and the whole Halloween aesthetic, and I think that naturally influenced my artwork over the years. I’ve always wanted to experience a real Halloween party, and this year I’m even thinking about organizing one myself so I can finally celebrate it in my own way.

What is the best Halloween costume you've ever seen?

One of my favorite Halloween costumes was Lisa from BLACKPINK as the Golden Woman from Jibaro, from Love, Death + Robots. I loved the gold-covered aesthetic of the entire look, especially all the jewelry, textures, and movement. She looked like a real fantasy creature and completely delivered with that costume!

What do you want to create next that scares you a little?

I’m currently experimenting with forms of art beyond digital illustration, and it’s definitely taking me outside of my comfort zone. I can’t share too much yet, but I’m exploring new ways of bringing my ideas to life and showing my work to people.

I’m a little nervous, but also really excited. I can’t wait until everything is ready so I can show this new side of myself and share what I’ve been working toward for the future.
