Mehdia Hassan is a PhD candidate and visual artist in the Department of Social Justice Education at the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). Her research interests include: arts-based teaching and learning, youth studies, mental wellness, and multilingualism. Mehdia earned her Honours BSc. in Psychology and Health Studies from the University of Toronto and her MA in Social Justice Studies from Lakehead University.
Mehdia's doctoral research about the learning experiences of Afghan youth in Toronto was awarded the second-place winner by the University of Toronto School of Cities, in the 2025 Graduate Fellows Knowledge Mobilization Contest. Through an exhibit of participants' collages, project booklet, and poster, she engaged diverse audiences with her research.
