I am a Māori sports sociologist who works primarily across Māori and Indigenous Studies (Faculty of Arts) and Sport and Sport Coaching (Faculty of Health) at the University of Canterbury.

My research focus is heavily influenced by a love of rugby league and a passion for improving sporting, educational, and health outcomes for Māori, Indigenous and Pacific people.

Having played, coached, and consumed rugby league for most of my life, much of my time is spent bridging the gap between academic and practical pursuits in the sporting world. Having also been chairman of Canterbury Rugby League, I like to think my research has helped to inform the development of the sport I love. In this regard, I consider myself a pracademic.
