PHOTOGRAPH OF MARCEL CESTA

taken before the war and

after being wounded in a

battle on the Western Front

February 20, 1915. Cesta was

wounded by a shell exploding

near him which burned his

stomach, head and hands and

rendered him totally blind.

he laid for two days without

attendence and when picked

up by litter bearers his body

was nothing but one wound

which was entirely ganrened.

The second photograph shows

his wife and two children.
