Last week, over 100 global tech leaders gathered at Bletchley Park to tackle one of the biggest challenges in AI adoption: data readiness. From BT Group to Shell, easyJet, and PwC UK, the message was clear ➡️ AI success doesn’t start with algorithms, it starts with governance, clean data, and human confidence in using these tools. One insight really stood out to me: “Somehow we've managed to inadvertently divest our responsibility for data. Apologies for another marketing whinge but please, please don't ask me to find time in my diary for "a 20 minute demo of your product". a) It's never 20 minutes b) if it were relevant I would absolutely reach out and ask you for a demo on the strength of a brief explanatory email and c) if I agreed to even half of these that would be my whole week taken care of. Worse though, when I decline, asking me who in my or organisation you should contact is such a no no. Firstly asking 'who deals with audience platforms' or 'who deals with streaming' is a nonsense request in a large organisation. Secondly, finding the right person in many cases would result in an intolerable amount of research and thirdly I'm not giving out colleagues emails without their consent.

North West & North East Tech Market! I’m pleased to share our latest 2025 Tech Job Market Trends Report, focused on the North West and North East regions. The report examines how local employers are responding to digital transformation pressures, salary shifts, and workforce capability gaps shaping the tech landscape. Here’s a snapshot of what we found: 📈 5% year-on-year vacancy growth despite national slowdown 💼 Over 4,250 open roles across the North West 💰 Average salaries: £60,000 in Manchester, £52,000 across wider regions ⚙️ Contract roles equivalent to £75,000–£83,500, interim packages £150,000+ 📊 46% of employers reduced hiring budgets post–NI increase 🔒 89% prioritising data capability investment, 76% cloud and cybersecurity maturity The findings highlight a resilient regional tech economy, where demand for cloud, data, and security talent continues to rise despite tightening budgets. M&S continues to feel cyberattack fallout 🤖 Orders resumed, but traffic and sales still down At Gener8, we analysed the effect of the cyberattack on Marks and Spencer site visits and orders across our UK panel. Although site traffic and sales have improved since the peak of the cyberattack disruption, site visits remain 24% below pre-attack levels, and M&S online purchases are still down by 56%. This is partly due to a limited range of best-selling items being available and the current inability to return online purchases in-store. Analytics records outcomes. User behaviour happens before them. When attempts fail silently, nothing breaks on a dashboard. Everything looks fine. Intent isn't. Most optimisation gaps live here. Not in what users finish, but in what they try. Seeing that difference changes how you fix things.
