Gem Misa reposted thisGem Misa reposted thisHow effective can a 10 seconder TV Ad be? This is the question we asked ourselves when we decided to take a punt on TV but didn't have the deep pockets of the brand behemoths that use TV advertising regularly. Thanks to an excellent partnership with ITV we had a chance to test a theory: We knew that the steady double digit growth we've been seeing in the UK over the past 6 years were mostly from the same consumers buying more of our product. (We've been in the same stores with the same skus until 2023) After restructuring the business to weather the last few years' tough economic conditions, we managed to channel a modest sum of money into advertising. We knew it wasn't enough to do a huge campaign with a sexy 30 seconder TV ad so we wondered if we could get the message through in 10 seconds. If we could make a 10 seconder work, we'd be able to reach over 50% of the UK's ABC1 adult population an average of 7-8 times. (We're 2% UK Rice market so reaching 50% of our target audience was just mindblowing). But what would we say? Our consumer base has both young & old, male & female who buy our products for various reasons (managing diabetes & other health concerns, Keto or Low carb dieting, gym goers managing their 'macros' etc) but despite all these different motivations for purchase - they were united by the low carb / low calorie functional benefit that we offer that rice, couscous or quinoa couldn't match by a mile. So we focused on that. "Did you know that Fullgreen Cauliflower Rice has 93% less carbs than Rice?" was our original idea - but was vetoed by Clearcast saying that, being vegetable based, we weren't allowed to compare against rice (although interestingly, Clearcast have approved meat alternatives with the same % lower message in the past). CC invited us to bring in some legal advice but we thought we'd rather spend what we had on airtime. So our new message? "Did you know that Fullgreen Cauliflower rice is just 38 calories for the entire bag". Topped off with "Find us in the Rice Aisle" as we are on shelf in all major UK supermarkets. We hoped to maximize the ads effectivity by keeping the message simple and straightforward. We then made sure that all major supermarkets were running in-store promotions with the same message and imagery as the ad. The results? We aired the ad across April & May and so far have seen over 40% in incremental sales above our baseline forecast and above the effect of promotions... and these higher sales figures continue. Our Units per store per week have DOUBLED (12 wk ave.) versus last year and we're hitting historical highs of 30 units per store per week in some retailers. We're pleased with the early results and think we have found our flywheel which we will continue to build on in 2024-2025! Thank you to Callum Taylor for the partnership. Mark Germain for synergizing the supermarket promotions & Verity Brighton for making sure we didn't run out of stock! ;)

Gem Misa shared thisThank you to the wonderful Akshata Murty for the opportunity to visit 10 Downing Street to celebrate Female-led businesses and the launch of the BUY WOMEN BUILT kitemark. I had the honour of meeting Mrs Murty who saw the Fullgreen pouch I was holding said that "they have it at home all the time!" (Pinch me moment!) As a mother to 2 girls and herself the daughter of one of the first female engineers of Tata Motors the largest carmaker in India - it is so great to see Akshata shine a light on female founded businesses to help inspire young girls to become the entrepreneurs and business leaders of the future. It was a hallmark moment for me to be at No.10 in the presence of ladies who, rather than 'in spite of being a woman', embrace and celebrate being a woman in business and have built some of the most epic brands in the process. (And done it with so much grace I might add ...seeing at least 4 founders in the room who were due to give birth in just a few weeks, and chatting to mothers in the room about kids and juggling life and work). Thank you to Sahar Hashemi OBE Barny Macaulay and the rest of the BWB team Amisha Mody Serena Slatter Felicity & Maddie. Gem Misa shared thisWe've worked hard to create an ad with a hardhitting & effective message despite Clear Cast prohibiting a comparison to rice in the advert with our usual '93% less carbs than Rice' (they say we are a vegetable and not rice therefore are cannot be compared - even if bigger brands such as THIS and Quorn managed to get clear cast permission on similar claims versus meat! Clear cast have invited us to get legal representation if we wanted to pursue the case but instead we decided to put the funds into more airtime.) We've also made a call to shorten the ad to a 10 seconder and go for reach & frequency - to hit 60% of the UK adult population an average of 6 times each. Hopefully this would somewhat increase our 2% share of the UK rice market 🤔Gem Misa shared thisFullgreen is launching a TV ad on nationwide TV via ITV. You can find Fullgreen in the rice aisle of major supermarkets around the UK. By keeping it short and sweet (10 seconds to be exact!) the ad is expected to deliver a reach of 60% of UK Adults viewing the ad an average of 6 times over April-June. https://lnkd.in/eA_4-5fC

Gem Misa shared thisI’ll never forget that Whole Foods Market UK gave me one of my first breaks as an entrepreneur when I walked into their headquarters with a simple concept board and some homemade samples (this was for a previous start up & my very first attempt at starting a business) and they agreed to give me a shot! That small business went through a few clumsy iterations and lots of rookie mistakes from a first time founder before eventually evolving into FULLGREEN a few years later, selling over 20 million pouches and sold not just in Whole Foods Market UK but nationwide in Whole Foods stores in the US too! It’s so great to see Whole Foods Market’s support for female entrepreneurs still going strong in their collaboration with BUY WOMEN BUILT for International Women’s day. 🙌🏼 Thank you for shining a light on female founded businesses and hopefully inspiring little girls who walk past that store window to become the founders of the future ❤️ Thank you to the lovely Sahar Hashemi OBE and Barny Macaulay of Buy Women Built for putting together this fabulous community. My friend & co-founder Christopher Blake is key to opening the doors into Europe! Through our extensive FMCG experience, we've seen first-hand how challenging it can be for brands to secure major retail listings, build strong distributor partnerships, & scale efficiently in new markets. Too often, great products struggle to reach their full potential because they lack the right commercial support. That's why we've created our agency—to provide hands-on sales expertise, industry connections, and practical route-to-market solutions for food & drinks brands - with a personal & friendly touch! We work with emerging, challenger, & established brands to deliver: 🚀 Retail Launch Plans & Sales growth 🚀 Distributor & partner management 🚀 UK & European market expansion 🚀 Key account management 🚀 Commercial strategy and execution Our mission is simple: help great food & brands win more customers, secure more opportunities, & achieve sustainable growth. Gem Misa reacted on thisGem Misa reacted on thisI’m not usually someone who shares personal updates on LinkedIn — but competing in my first HYROX race (at 49) feels worth putting out there! 👴🏻💪🏻 Usually I only visit London Excel for Food & Drink Industry events, to meet new brand partners and catch up with existing clients - like the team at Pimentae Drinks Yesterday’s visit to Excel was not as enjoyable as drinking spicy margaritas 🍸❌ But what an experience it was - both energizing and inspiring to be involved in the biggest HYROX event ever! HYROX is a unique blend of endurance & functional fitness - and it pushed me through moments when my legs felt done but also where I surprised myself. Most importantly, it reminded me why setting ambitious goals matters: growth doesn’t happen by accident! And I smashed my time target - achieving 1hr 14 mins ⏰🎉 Already thinking about the next one… 🫣 If anyone’s considering signing up for their first HYROX: do it. Your future self will thank you Well done to Russell Green Daniel Grace for just beating me 😜

Gem Misa reacted on thisGem Misa reacted on thisFriendship with fellow founders means everything. You don’t have to explain the sacrifices it takes to grow a brand from scratch and in this case, very successfully with Biotiful Gut Health and Little Moons. I know we could reach out anytime, to each other about anything. We are here for the highs and the lows, and everything in between. Natasha Bowes even lent me caps in January after a sticky situation with RE:NOURISH . My advice, surround yourself with a trusted group who just get it. Very apt that we’re standing in front of the Biotiful sign that says Trust your gut, something Natasha Bowes , Vivien Wong , and I live by.

So, what does that look like in practice? Watch below 👇 More schools are recognising the value of providing enrichment opportunities beyond the traditional curriculum, experiences that empower learners to discover new interests, develop entrepreneurial thinking, and build skills for the future. And we're excited to be working with them. As a culmination of our pilot, we hosted a Business Idea Challenge with UCL School of Management where students from Belmont Mill Hill Prep School, Lyonsdown School, and Oaks Park High School developed and presented their own business ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs after completing our Basics of Business: Beginner to Boss digital programme. What struck us most wasn’t just the creativity of their ideas, but the mindset shift we saw: 💬 “It made me feel more secure that I can become an entrepreneur one day.” – Yunus, year 8 💬 “This programme helps you believe in yourself and makes you feel like your ideas could become a real business.” – Emily, year 6 💬 "I didn't think I’d ever be able to be involved in something like this. Having the opportunity to take part has been amazing, I absolutely loved it.” – Lily, year 8 For us, that’s what entrepreneurship education is about - opening doors early, building skills that last, and helping young people see possibilities they might not have seen before. If you're interested in learning more or would like to use the programme at your school, get in touch with us today: https://lnkd.in/dE5a7QuX Thanks to all those involved: Professor Davide Ravasi, Susannah Abbott, Beth Kerr, Tobi Ajala, Gem Misa, Cam Taylor, Rittu Hall, Paul Herman, Lauren Smithie, Tracy Kingsnorth, Joseph Franklin, Asher Budwig, Freddie O’Gilvie, Marcia Graham + all the young aspiring entrepreneurs! #YoungEntrepreneurs #EntrepreneurshipEducation #FutureReady #SkillsForLife

Gem Misa reacted on thisGem Misa reacted on thisAs I move on from my position as CEO and MD of HUL later this month after announcing the quarter results, a lot comes to mind. It has been an exciting phase, from returning to my alma mater, reacquainting myself with India, to getting to know our people and partners across the country. Every day has been a new experience, and I’ve had the privilege of working with the best teams that any leader could have. Despite challenging market conditions, we have been able to strengthen our market leadership, tap into the cultural engine and social first demand generation, launch pathbreaking innovations and build our new strategy ‘ASPIRE: Unlocking a Billion Aspirations,’ which has started to deliver. Leading Hindustan Unilever, where I began my career, has been a humbling and enriching experience that I will always cherish. HUL and Unilever have been my home for 37 incredible years, during which I have grown alongside people, communities, and brands. I have had the privilege of leading businesses in several strategically important markets, including the Philippines, North Asia, and China. I owe immense gratitude to our former leaders, the Board, my mentors, and superiors, whose support and wisdom have guided me throughout my journey. I’d also like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the HUL family and my Unilever colleagues for being the backbone of my journey. Now feels like the right moment to pass on the baton to Priya Nair. I am sure that under her leadership, HUL will shine brighter in the years to come.
