But when it comes to the world of using AI tools such as Claude Code there are multiple ways to run it. - Claude Desktop App - VS Code Plugin - Terminal And maybe this is controversial, but I like using a GUI. Despite my love of the film Hackers and the many interpretations of being a developer or a hacker, such as the infamous CSI dual keyboard scene, I've never felt the need to use the terminal, PowerShell, or command prompt for things that I can do in GUIs quicker. It's the same thing, to be honest, that I always felt when it comes to Git. Although I believe every developer should understand git commands and how to use them in the terminal using tools like https://www.gitkraken.com/ has always for me been phenomenally more superior for me. Scott Reed shared thisSome people say that AI is a fad and the bubble will burst and some people say that it's the next revolution. For me personally I see the AI platforms and tooling as something that's empowered my role and has allowed me to rapidly move forward with solutions streamlining business value. Here's a few of the tools that that empower my day-to-day. - NotebookLM provides a less hallucinogenic, rapid way to research and generate artefacts and solutions. While there's a few gaps some cheap plugins fill the gaps and allow me to easily find out everything I need to generate a solution and then output videos, infographics, podcasts, and documentation rapidly and in the way I want. - Gemini / Perplexity It is my go-to all-purpose question and answer platform. When I want answers to a quick solution or to get some help, Gemini is my favourite go-to to quickly and easily get answers. It is also a place where I can easily generate images and output such as slides using canvas super fast. Gemini is great but I love that Perplexity superior citations so you can see everything that it's used to craft the answers. - Antigravity + Claude / Gemini Allows me to easily and rapidly prototype and play with solutions using multi-agents and Claude. Provides a very accurate output using skills, multiple agents, and co-work to be able to help support and automate repetitive tasks. - Wispr Flow I use thanks to Mark Welland on my PC and my Android mobile device to be able to turn my voice into accurate, legible, and well-articulated text. This post has been written using voice-to-text and it's usually 99% accurate. Whereas when I used to use Google speech-to-text I would have to do a lot of corrections. Most of the time this gets this perfect and understands the tonal differences between personal-to-work communication. Most of my emails, Teams messages, Slack, and personal communications are all done using this tool. Scott Reed liked thisScott Reed liked thisOptimizely's CMS 13 is landing imminently. Most teams will look at it and decide it can wait. I'd push back on that. This isn't a routine version bump. CMS 13 is the release that ties together everything Optimizely has been building toward over the last few years: Visual Builder gives marketing teams the ability to publish and iterate without going anywhere near a dev queue. Content Graph becomes the mandatory backbone for search and content delivery. Opal AI is now embedded directly in the platform, with full awareness of your content, your workflows and your team. The practical gap between organisations on CMS 13 and those still sitting on earlier versions is going to widen quickly. Not because the older versions stop working, but because the roadmap acceleration from here is real and it compounds. Upgrades have a reputation for being slow and disruptive. 500+ of them later, we built our own AI accelerator tooling specifically because the traditional approach was broken. Scott Reed liked thisScott Reed liked this8 years ago I built terrible APIs 👇 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗣𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗼): ❌ Starting a project with Microservices and Kubernetes ❌ Adding CI/CD too late ❌ Making implementations and sharing the API contract between teams or other team members afterwards ❌ Ignoring unit and integration tests ❌ Ignoring software architecture design ❌ Not documenting your code ❌ Writing messy code to finish the task quicker ❌ Overengineering a solution in case you need something in the future ❌ Using AutoMapper (or another mapping library) ❌ Using 3rd party packages that don't adhere to the project 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱: ✅ Start a project with a Monolith or Modular Monolith ✅ Add CI/CD support as soon as possible ✅ Use API-First Approach: share the contracts with others, implement after ✅ Adding unit and integration tests as soon as your first use cases are ready. Also, you can use TDD ✅ Create software architecture design first, and code afterwards ✅ Document your architectural decisions and code ✅ Write decently clean code, continuously apply the Boy Scout to make it better ✅ Apply DRY, YAGNI and KISS principles not only to code but also to the software design itself ✅ Use manual mapping ✅ Use 3rd party packages when they have value in your project These hard-learned lessons transformed how I build APIs. Now they consistently handle millions of requests without breaking a sweat. I do not have the Gemini app. I’ve never used the Gemini app. I’ve turned off AI features in every Google app where I’m able. My Gemini app activity settings have been turned off for over a year now. Are they just telling me that I could use their stupid plagiarism engine if I wanted to? Probably. It’s probably just very poorly worded marketing spam. But telling me out of the blue that I AM using it when I think I’m not is really creepy and annoying, and honestly just makes me want to delete every Google app that I’m using.

Advanced Computer Software is the 3rd largest software company in the United Kingdom worth £725 million with over 12 separate divisions.
In the past ACS have always had individual systems for each of their business unit divisions with their own separate websites and internal CRM systems. In 2015 ACS started a massive project to rework how the core processes works across all of their business units and unifying all their core CRM systems.
As part of this project Redweb was hired to…Advanced Computer Software is the 3rd largest software company in the United Kingdom worth £725 million with over 12 separate divisions.
In the past ACS have always had individual systems for each of their business unit divisions with their own separate websites and internal CRM systems. In 2015 ACS started a massive project to rework how the core processes works across all of their business units and unifying all their core CRM systems.
As part of this project Redweb was hired to design and build a new version of the Advanced Computer Software website unifying all the core businesses units together and integrating with the new CRM and processes. First off this saw our design team working closely with ACS to create a new design and UX process that would look great and also join all of the products, services, sectors and solutions that ACS offer under one roof.
Next was the main build of the project was done on the very latest version of EpiServer and saw the team building an complex highly adaptable solution allowing core functionality to be built in to Blocks. This allowed the pages of the new site to built in a variety of ways and gave ACS the flexibility to create an adaptable and fluid site that could be altered as the site evolved. We also integrated with Marketo to push information willed out by Dynamically built forms through to their systems.
The project was a great success, with some great team work and hitting on time and has left us with opportunities for future phases.Other creators -

Working as a Web Engineer in the team under Tony as the Senior and with a Junior developer it was my role to engineer and built some of the more complex areas of the site. I brought to the build existing Umbraco expertise which helped as it allowed me to build a caching framework for tours and attractions on top of Umbraco.

McCarthyAndStone Rework Phase 1

Building a series of changes in to the McCarthyAndStone website including full angular SPA searching, upgrading to .NET 4.5.1 and latest CMS version. Also including re factoring all WCF services in to the modern REST Web API framework. Other minor changes such as branding.

Building full backbone.js SPA application around the Vodafone in-fracture for adding devices, plans and sharing data across platforms. Worked closely with the team and learned backbone quickly, created cache templates and transitional UIs.

The Royal Society project saw a complete rebuild of the their CMS and website bringing excited new front end features and interactivity. As one of the core software engineers on the projects I was extremely happy to be involved in this build

The Interactive Media Awards
This project involved a complete rebuild of the Evan Evans Tours website from a old poorly designed PHP site to a total overhaul using the Umbraco open source CMS platform. This project had a tight turn around and make complex front end and backend features such as CRM integration, payment services, commerce and a very complex structure. I was one of the 2 senior engineers on the project and winning this great work.

Redweb undertook a rebuild of McCarthy & Stone's digital online presence rebuilding their site and providing easy to use powerful functionality for retirement properties. Built in EpiServer 6 I was one of the principle developers of this system and we were all very pleased with another Redweb Gold.
