I’ve been super lucky to have worked with a load of awesome people over the last 35 or so years - colleagues / clients / others*, some for a long time, others maybe for less.
Shane Cashin is one of those people. We first met when he was still on his strong, long-running stint at
A J Bell Securities Limited, one of more established firms in our space. I’ll always remember the way he cold messaged me on here, curious about what plans we had for
Seccl and whether there may be a role for him. We first met at The Ham Yard Hotel and although we had nothing suitable at the time (arguably should have done) we kept talking and over time the right position arose.
Since joining us about three years ago, Shane has played a pivotal role in professionalising our operations and to creating the conditions that have taken us from (I think) about 80,000 client accounts to more than one million. He’s travelled endless miles from his family home in Manchester to our offices in Bath, London and Edinburgh. He’s been responsible for hiring loads of seriously amazing people (and the odd loonie). He’s put right a lot of wrongs and he’s been a great human to have around the place. He also has a weird travel cutlery ‘habit’.
Today was his last day with us and we send him on his way with gratitude and a round of applause. As he embarks on his next gig, our operations are far better performing and materially more resilient than they were back in 2023. As is the team.
And many of us have formed a friendship that I hope will endure. Go well fella. Thank you. And remain curious.
