Joint
Training Directorate and
Joint Warfighting Center (J7/JWFC)
U.S. Joint Forces Command's (USJFCOM) Joint Warfighting Center (JWFC) in Suffolk, Va. Coordinates the military's overall joint training efforts to ensure it is the most advanced and powerful force in the world.
Maintaining that level of superiority depends on strengthening and developing new capabilities and continually transforming the military forces it trains. Joint training provides a solid basis for successful engagements in real-world operations.
USJFCOM works with a broad range of partners to support joint warfighter development, including the
Office of Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the services, unified commands, as well as interagency and multinational partners.
The command provides highly realistic training with a joint context, revises the content and execution of training through adoption of lessons learned and best practices, and develops advanced technologies in conjunction with operational exercises.
Since 2003, USJFCOM has conducted over twenty mission rehearsals and more than a dozen staff assistance visits to prepare joint leaders and their staffs as they deploy around the globe. A recent additional initiative is providing individual augmentee training up to 24 times a year to prepare deploying individuals to quickly assimilate into joint task force headquarter staffs.
USJFCOM hosts two of the three enabling capabilities of DoD's Training Transformation initiative: the Joint National Training Capability (JNTC) and the Joint Knowledge Development and Distribution Capability (JKDDC).
JNTC uses a mix of live, virtual and constructive models and simulations in an integrated network of over 33 persistent training sites to provide the most realistic collective joint mission experience possible. In addition, this capability provides training and accreditation support with a total effort of over 700 man-years in 20 states.
Complimentary and mutually supporting is JKDDC which focuses on online, individual, joint training of the warfighter as it becomes the premier provider of relevant, timely, and globally accessible joint knowledge, preparing and assisting individuals to support integrated operations.
USJFCOM also plays an integral role in transforming senior military leadership development and education by bringing joint training and professional military education together to ensure leaders are prepared to operate cohesively in joint operations. The command hosts portions of three courses sponsored by USJFCOM and the National Defense University at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C.:
• The Keystone joint operations module for command senior enlisted leaders
• The Capstone joint operations module for newly selected flag and general officers
• The Pinnacle course for two- and three-star joint task force commanders
Additionally, USJFCOM oversees specialized training provided by the Standing Joint Force Headquarters, Special Operations Command-Joint Forces Command and the Joint Transformation Command - Intelligence, all based at Norfolk, Va.,
Other specialized training opportunities are provided by the Joint Public Affairs Support Element at Suffolk, Va., the Joint Deployment Training Center at Ft. Eustis, Va., and the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency at Ft. Belvoir, Va.
