Donate via an IRA / QCD

To donate a qualified charitable distribution from your Individual Retirement Account to meet your required minimum contribution, follow these steps:
  1. If you are, or are coming up to, the age of 72, factor in how receiving your RMD or more will affect your overall income and taxes. Under the SECURE Act, you can make a QCD at age 70 ½ even though you do not have to take a RMD until age 72.
  2. Contact your IRA trustee to arrange qualified charitable distributions. You can make distributions up to $100,000 each year, and the amount will be excluded from gross income.
  3. Notify your IRA trustee that you want to make a qualified charitable distribution, and complete the required paperwork provided by the trustee. CR’s Tax ID number is 13-1776434. Please instruct them to provide your name and address on the QCD paperwork so we can provide the required SEC 408(d)(8)(A) tax receipt.
  4. Notify that checks should be mailed directly to Consumer Reports, Attn: Development, 101 Truman Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703
  5. For questions, please call us at 877-275-3425.
Per IRS regulations, you cannot receive goods or services (i.e. CR magazine or online access) in exchange for a gift made from your IRA.
