Deviation Actions
Have you ever seen a staff or volunteer symbol or ambassador badge and wondered "Who DAt?" Welcome to the interview series that's hittin' DA streets to find out more about these very deviants.
Featuring a Wild Card question which is selected at random from a pool of questions. If you have a suggested random/fun question to add to the list, please feel free to comment here.
Ahoy! If you'd be so kind, what is your preferred name? Also, do tell, what is the delightfully devious story of your username?
Zsu works! My username is well.. Back when I made my account I was a still teenager and very much into anime, and I probably thought combining a Japanese word with an English one would be peak cool kid name. ![]()
How did you first discover DeviantArt and how did it connect to your heArt?
I don't even remember anymore! It was still the very early days of DeviantArt (it was probably no more than a few months old at the time), and I was probably looking for winamp skins or wallpapers... And then stuck around when I found some really awesome art that also inspired me to try to improve myself.
As an admin of DA, what is your title and what are your responsibilities?
I am a backend developer! We build the stuff under the hood that most people never see, maintain the APIs and more.
Generally, what does your day to day look like in regard to DA?
We are distributed all around the world so I start my mornings by catching up on what everyone else was doing while I was sleeping, do code reviews and such, then the rest of my day is split between fixing bugs, building new features and of course, attending meetings as needed.
Was art an integral part of your childhood? If so, how?
As a child I always loved stories and wanted to write them, I had started many notebooks with silly little stories (that I never actually finished, thanks ADHD...). Then as a teenager I discovered anime and then I wanted to draw more than anything else. And then finally, I learned programming and that has become the art I ended up pursuing ![]()
Who or what is your inspiration in life and/or art?
There's so much I can't even start naming them! Whenever I meet new people or try out new things it inspires me to venture further and learn more, because learning about people and things is fun. So I guess kind of... everything?
Of your own work, which has the most meaning to you and why?
Hmm if I had to make a choice, https://www.deviantart.com/yumeruby/art/Hopeful-Night-of-the-World-190265706 It's not a particularly good piece of art or anything; but I made it for my grandmother that I loved dearly. The original sadly disappeared sometime after she passed away, but just looking at the picture always reminds me of her, and how fantastic a woman she was.
The classic superpowers (flight, invisibility, super strength, etc.) are no longer available. What wildly random superpower would you choose and why?
Hmm if I can choose I would like the power to be comfy anywhere! Uncomfortable chairs are my arch nemesis....
Is there a movie/TV series/documentary that you just can't stop thinking about?
I am the sort that always keeps thinking about the last thing I watched... until the next one comes along ![]()
What music gets you into your groove? (Specific groups/artists?)
Depending on my mood I listen to all kinds of genres... If anyone looked at my Spotify history they would be very confused
But overall I think metal, electronic, symphonic are the most frequent tags on my playlist. I also really like movie and video game soundtracks.
A book that had a powerful impact on you?
Anne of the Green Gables. Anne's overall positive thinking has been a role model for me since I was very little.
What is a dish that when consumed always provides you with a sense of pure joy?
Strawberry waffles with vanilla ice cream... it's just magic
What question or topic do you wish you'd get to discuss more often? And, please, share a few highlights about it!
That's a difficult one because I am yapping about all the things all the time
So I guess instead I will just share a fun fact I recently learned: the meat breeds of guinea pig (cuy) can grow up to 3kg/6lbs in size! Wheekers the size of a small cat, how neat is that???
What is the single best piece of advice you have ever received?
"Believe it or not, your friends do not hate you." When one is struggling, it can be hard to reach out for help, afraid of resentment for being a burden on others. But it is important to remember that the people that truly care about you would be more hurt by watching you suffer.
Wild Card: Where would you most like to go, be it on Earth, outer space, or fantasy?
There is a place that keeps popping up in my dreams; I don't know where it is or if it even is a real place at all. But I would like to see it once while awake so it stops slipping away every time I wake up.
Thank you for your devious time today! Do you have any final thoughts to share?
Please keep on being devious!
