It’s only a 25% chance you’ll cast it for free. You need to roll exactly a 1 on the d4 to not expend the spell slot.

Ah! I did get one new one. Still, just a little sad as I was thinking I was getting some new stuff when I had read the email. I’m guessing they are just wanting to spread the work of their old pre-order bonuses, but it kinda sucks that the pre-order bonuses are kinda just lessened in value this way

I really love the sound effects on these. An underlooked feature in my opinion.
For some reason the Nat 20 effect doesn’t seem to work on mine?

These are awesome. Mostly purchasing them to support both D&D Beyond and BLM.

A fun, single level Abjurer Multiclass: Warlock.
Why? For one spell in particular: Armor of Agathys. When you get hit by a melee attack, Armor of Agathys dishes the temp HP your earned from it back at the enemy, until the temp HP runs out. This spell works so well with the abjurer's Arcane Ward, as the ward takes damage before your temp HP, causing it to last longer than it otherwise would. It also doesn't use concentration, and lasts 10 minutes, letting you cast it before a fight without losing your ability to use useful spells that do require concentration.
Throw out a Flaming Sphere and control it with your bonus action while using your Action to cast Blade Ward to further your tankiness while still being a threat on the battlefield! Or go full on melee, casting Booming Blade up close and personal while making enemies think twice about moving away from you!

Always a fan of these subclass spotlights!
One quick thing I’d mention: medium armor actually tends to be great for people with or without good dex as well, and isn’t dependent on having good strength.

Great article! I’m certainly going to use some of these points to further explore my gnome-raised goblin artificer.
A lot of races in D&D get the “The gods made this race evil” treatment, and I really enjoyed what you brought up about how a race’s culture is what often spawns that tendency towards an evil alignment, and not their race itself.

Like the title says, I can’t find a magic item I homebrewed after changing its name. The old item and it’s old description still shows up when I look for it in the character’s equipment.

I created a custom action as part of a homebrew class feature, and I'm trying to have the damage equal class level + ability modifier (in this case, warlock class level + charisma modifier).
The way to do this seems to be using a fixed value of 1 for the base feature (this for some reason gives me the charisma modifier + class level damage I'd like on the action, though I'm not sure where the charisma modifier bonus comes from, and whether I can disable it). Then, add level overrides for fixed value for all 20 levels.
My issue is that the overrides aren't working. For example, at level 2, a warlock with a +3 charisma modifier should have this custom action deal 5 points of damage, but it ends up dealing 4 points of damage.
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here (or if there is a better way of doing this), but this seems like a bug to me.

The ability is "Breath of Smoke"

Glad to see I’m not the only one with the issue, but sad to see that it is indeed an issue

My favorite spell flavorings for my goblin artillerist, Goggles, have got to be:
Absorb Elements/Shield - It's just an airbag built into her armor
Jump - Spring loaded shoes, Inspector Gadget style
Sanctuary - A smelly potion that makes an ally reek like a skunk
Mage Hand - A octopus like object with a small helicopter controlled by a remote control
Faerie Fire - The magic octopus from above deploys a firetruck red dye on the area below it (the red dye is also useful for dying her hair)
Grease - Same as above, but... with grease!

It's possible that MellieDM is just a moderator, and not a dev, and could possibly not even be working super closely with the dev team, or even with D&D Beyond. They might know as much as us.
Given their huge backlog of things they need to do, I doubt something as low priority as this would ever get pulled in, but I still do think a simple change of a default 20/60 would suffice for what most people want. It's a small nuisance, but overall affects my game very little.

I’m having this error now as well. It seems to have popped up around when my subscription ended, and I needed to renew my payment.

I know this post is old, but it's something I've found and noticed, and it seems like it's been an issue for over a year. I'm sure it has dropped quite a ways in their backlog of bug fixes though, unfortunately, but it is a tad annoying. A default of 20/60 would definitely be better than 5/5, if they're looking for a quick fix. Otherwise, have multiple thrown settings to choose from (Thrown 20/60, Thrown 15/30) based on existing weapons, so they don't need to change the parameters of data being given.

Yup, my issue is the same as yours.
Luckily they've added a sweep option for navigating through the submenues, so I can at least get to all my info on mobile. The navigation button was much quicker and easier though, when it still worked.

I can't upload a picture, but when viewing my character on my iPhone I can't navigate to my character's attacks, equipment, skills, etc, as only an empty, black transparent layer pops up when clicking the "menu" button.
I saw this issue for the first time about a couple of weeks ago, and was hoping it'd be fixed by now, but it hasn't. I'm unable to access any of my characters data on my phone except the ability scores, making the app kind of pointless for me right now (which extra sucks because I have a membership).
Running on an iPhone 5s, iOS 10.3.1
