About us
The ACLU is an non-profit, non-partisan organization of people who believe in the power of action. We are united by the quest – “We the people dare to create a more perfect union.” Whether in the courts, statehouses, Congress or communities, we fight to defend the rights that the Constitution guarantees to all of us —regardless of who we are, where we come from, whom we love, or what we believe. Together, we take up the toughest civil rights and liberties challenges of our time. We seek to inspire those who want change to become the ones who make change.

What do we mean when we say “free and fair elections”? Learn more about why our voting rights are critical to our democracy, and how you can defend those rights during the midterms, at https://lnkd.in/dA-jeaFX

The ACLU is using every tool we have to defend the freedom to learn, teach, research, and build institutions where everyone can thrive. As the Trump administration attacks DEI across our schools, workplaces, and public institutions, we’ve challenged those efforts from representing NIH research grantees to defending Head Start programs and the families they serve. Yasmin Cader, our Deputy Executive Director for Program, Strategy, and Culture, joined The Texas Tribune Festival's panel about The War on DEI. We will keep fighting for a country where everyone has the freedom and opportunity to flourish.

We're defending Americans' right to free and fair elections — and in doing so, we're defending our very democracy. Our Chief Political Advocacy Officer Deirdre Schifeling was proud to speak on the Redrawing Democracy panel at the Texas Tribune Festival, and share how the ACLU is hard at work safeguarding our voting rights and our elections as we draw closer to the midterms.

"Innovation can be fostered without causing harm," writes our Chief Technology Officer Ijeoma Mbamalu. Every day, we see the disastrous consequences as a powerful few make technology decisions without having to answer to the public. True innovators must move to design technology alongside the communities whom it will impact — our future depends on it. Read the full piece entitled “Centering Communal Values and Agency in Design of Technology" in the Journal of the Center for Policy Analysis and Research’s issue commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.
