“This experience wasn’t just about the animals I saw during my time there. It was about empowering people who will continue making a difference every day.” When Meghan Respess, DVM, DACVECC, our national director of blood banking, joined the Mobile Animal Clinic with the Humane World for Animals on a recent Mars Ambassador Program (MAP) trip in Karnataka, India, her goal was simple: show up, lend a hand, and share knowledge. From advising on peri-operative efficiency and medication protocols to helping lead first aid training for passionate local volunteers, Dr. Respess saw firsthand how dedication transforms communities: “What I admired most was the team’s determination to make the biggest possible impact with the resources available to them,” Dr. Respess shared. It reinforced a lesson that was ingrained in me during my residency: do the best you can with what you have.” “Knowing that some of the information, training and ideas shared during the visit may continue benefiting animals long after I’ve left is deeply meaningful. Professionally and personally, it was one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had.” The Mobile Animal Clinic team and local volunteers are on the ground every day making a difference—providing sterilizations, anti-rabies vaccinations, emergency field medical care, and first-aid training. Reflecting on how stepping away from her daily hospital role to join them impacted her perspective, Dr. Respess shared: "At BluePearl, we're incredibly fortunate to have access to advanced diagnostics, medications, equipment, and the resources needed to practice exceptional medicine every day. Spending time in rural India reminded me not to take those things for granted. Witnessing that level of dedication was a powerful reminder that while medicine is supported by tools and technology, it is ultimately driven by unwavering commitment and compassion." #BeingBluePearl #ProudlyMars #MarsAmbassadorProgram
