Last week, Program Manager Steven Alaman represented Breaking Barriers Collaborative at the Future of Electric Freight Networking Breakfast and the launch of the Electrifying Drayage Alliance. Here are some highlights: ⬇️ ⭐ Port of Seattle Commissioner Ryan Calkins and Steve Nicholas of The Northwest Seaport Alliance opened the morning. Steve summed up the energy in the room: “It is very exciting to see that so many people are willing to come out on a Friday morning to talk about electrifying drayage trucks!” ⭐ Sally Fouts (Zwartjes), Director of The Climate Pledge at Amazon, moderated a panel with Al Barner, CTP (Zeem Solutions), Adam Osborn, CSCP (Einride), and Nico De Golia (Microsoft) on what it will take to make electric freight a reality. A huge thanks to Daniel Salter and the Electrifying Drayage Alliance for hosting, and for your work decarbonizing port operations. Ready to electrify your drayage or medium- and heavy-duty fleet? Seattle City Light and Seattle Department of Transportation's curbside charging program expands, with up to 200 new on-street EV chargers to be installed by 2030. With the city setting a target to reduce transport emissions by 83% by 2030, ensuring more residents can make the switch to an EV which they are readily able to charge will play a crucial part in achieving this reduction. Earlier this month, our team gathered in Portland for a retreat to look ahead, dig into strategy, and plan for the coming year—with our newest team member, Alumni Program Manager Indra Budiman! We also enjoyed connecting with many of our alumni at the annual Climate Solutions Portland Reception. Catching up with the people who bring this work to life was a meaningful way to round out our time together, and a reminder of the community at the heart of BBC. We’re heading into the coming year energized, connected, and excited for what’s ahead!

The big news ➡️ Catalyst Mobility™ and Smart Freight Centre’s ZET SCALE alliance ordered 2,500 Class 8 electric trucks for shippers including PepsiCo and Microsoft. It’s the largest U.S. order to date and will nearly double the nation’s electric Class 8 fleet. The Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) is incredibly grateful for the work that our grantees are doing to create a more climate-resilient Portland.
Central City Concern set out to electrify their fleet by 2027. They got there a year early. CCC provides housing, healthcare, employment, and recovery services across Portland, work that depends on a fleet running every day. Through BBC's Fleet Electrification Accelerator, their team built a plan, secured funding support from the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) through the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, and installed 26 chargers at their Clean Fleet Depot through Pacific Power's Fleet Make-Ready program. 12 of their 130 vehicles are electrified so far, saving roughly $1,000/month in fuel and electricity costs. Hear directly from CCC's Rachel Maas and Fleet Manager James Ruenz on what that journey looked like, and learn about how everyone gets curious about the frunk.
