Today is Hunger Action Day and never has there been a greater need for action against hunger. We’re breaking down two of the H.R.1 impacts that are going into effect this week and will impact our fellow New Yorkers, especially the 1.6 million New Yorkers who depend on SNAP to put food on the table.   ➡️ As of Thursday, October 1, SNAP recipients who have lost benefits in the last few months because of changes in work reporting requirements can reapply to get SNAP again. To find free food across NYC, visit cityharvest.org/FindFood and to reapply for SNAP, visit Access HRA. ➡️ Also starting on Thursday, October 1, 75% of the cost to administer SNAP will shift from the federal government to the city for the first time in history, creating a $110 million hole that the city will need to figure out how to cover. City Harvest alone cannot fill the gap created by SNAP cuts. But in response, and with the support of our NYC community, we are stepping up to rescue and deliver 100 million pounds of food this year11% more than last year because of the how great the need is. #WeAreCityHarvest

  • Yesterday, City Harvest received the first of three zero-tailpipe-emission Volvo VNR electric trucks! We are thrilled to be able to bring electric trucks to the Bronx, the borough with the highest levels of food insecurity, poverty, and asthma in New York City. These trucks will help support a 25% increase in the amount of food we will provide to the Bronx this year.    We are grateful that these trucks, which will replace diesel trucks in our fleet, are coming to us as part of the “Bronx is Breathing” initiative, a project led by Volvo, among others, and are funded through an award from the New York State Clean Transportation Prizes program to curb noise and air pollution in the South Bronx with funding administered by NYSERDA.     Thank you to Manhattan Beer Distributors for generously donating charging to us, while the work to install the necessary electric charging infrastructure in the Bronx is ongoing.    Look out for our electric trucks in the Bronx as they bring nutritious food and a healthier environment to our neighbors. #WeAreCityHarvest Volvo Trucks North America, Manhattan Beer and Beverage Distributors, Empire Clean Cities, NYSERDA, Fulton Fish Market Cooperative, Paul Lipson, Greater Hunts Point Economic Development Corporation, THE POINT CDC, Public Works Partners, Cherry Bomb Creative, Amanda Septimo, Siddhartha Sanchez, NYC Mayor's Office of Food Policy, New York City Economic Development Corporation, Milea Truck Sales and Leasing, Justin Sanchez

As part of Climate Week NYC, City Harvest Food Council member Priyanka Naik hosted a Greenmarket Rescue at the Union Square GrowNYC Greenmarket! Volunteers collected 820 pounds of unsold fresh produce, which a City Harvest truck driver delivered to Hebron SDA French Church and Greater Unified Freewill Baptist Church in Brooklyn where it will be distributed to New Yorkers in need.

Our food rescue model reduces food waste and will prevent the equivalent of 16.1 million kilograms of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere this year.

Thank you Priyanka Naik and our volunteers for taking action to help our neighbors and our planet. To get involved visit https://lnkd.in/enCWXg2E. #WeAreCityHarvest

  • We are excited to be recognized as a 2025 Feeding America Advocacy Hall of Fame honoree.    The Advocacy Hall of Fame recognizes network members that demonstrate strong, sustained advocacy engagement throughout the year. At City Harvest, we work year-round with our partners to uplift voices and secure policies to help New Yorkers access nutritious food and strengthen food security statewide.    Thank you to the advocates, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who stand with us for a more equitable and sustainable food system.    We will continue to advocate for our neighbors as the cost of living continues to increase and cuts to SNAP continue to go into effect, making it harder for our fellow New Yorkers to put meals on the table. #WeAreCityHarvest

  • Take action and support our work this Hunger Action Month.   The need for food assistance in New York City is staggeringly high and historic cuts to SNAP amid an ongoing affordability crisis in our city could force even more of our fellow New Yorkers to turn to food pantries. Together, we can rescue and deliver even more food, ensuring our neighbors have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. Get involved at https://lnkd.in/enCWXg2E. #WeAreCityHarvest

  • We are neighbors helping neighbors. Hear from Michael Robinov, Co-Founder and CEO at Farm To People, one of our local food donors, on why they support our work rescuing and delivering food for New Yorkers in need. Together, we’re working to create a more equitable and sustainable food system. Follow along as we deliver this farm-fresh produce to the food pantry at Make the Road New York in Brooklyn to nourish our neighbors. #WeAreCityHarvest

  • Join Lyndon for a day in his life as a City Harvest driver! 🚛   Today he is heading to Staten Island to deliver a variety of fresh produce that we’ve rescued to three of our partner food pantries, including Community Health Action of Staten Island, Our Lady of Good Council, and The Staten Island Liberian Community Association. Lyndon has been driving with City Harvest for over 10 years: “Being able to assist City Harvest with what they do best, which is feeding communities. That’s my favorite part of the job, knowing that I’m a part of that is a gratifying feeling.” #WeAreCityHarvest
