About us
For more than 50 years, Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services (DPCS) has helped individuals and families across Danville and Pittsylvania County access the services, support, and resources they need to thrive. Created in 1972 by a joint resolution of Danville City Council and the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, DPCS is the local Community Services Board providing a comprehensive range of behavioral health, developmental, substance use, and prevention services to our community. Today, DPCS is one of Southside Virginia’s significant community-based employers, with nearly 350 employees, an annual operating budget approaching $40 million, and a broad network of programs and services designed to meet individuals where they are — from prevention and early intervention to treatment, crisis response, recovery, and long-term support. Our work reaches people across the lifespan and throughout the community — in homes, schools, workplaces, treatment settings, residential programs, and beyond. Through collaboration with local governments, healthcare providers, schools, law enforcement, community organizations, and other partners, DPCS works to strengthen the system of care available to the people of Danville and Pittsylvania County. DPCS is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors appointed by Danville City Council and the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors. The Board establishes policy and strategic direction for the Agency, while the Executive Director leads its day-to-day operations. As DPCS continues to grow and evolve, our purpose remains rooted in more than five decades of community service: unlocking the potential for growth and recovery in the individuals we have the honor and privilege to serve.
