Our August art calendar feature is Devin B. Johnson’s “One Flew the Coop” (2022). A Southern California native, Devin received his MA in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. His soft oil paintings are expressions of his life reimagined through memory, observation and raw feeling. He draws inspiration from found and captured images and textures, which he then digitally collages and manipulates to create intimate scenes that invite the viewer to participate in. Johnson’s work is included in public collections such as the Hammer Museum; Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Ohio; Pond Society, Shanghai; Marval Collection, Milan; and the Rubell Museum, Miami. Johnson was named the 2023 Artist-in-Residence at Fountainhead, Miami, and a Forbes 30 Under 30 Art and Design (2022) awardee. He was included in Cultured Magazine’s selection of “Young Artists in 2021.” Read more about the artist: https://lnkd.in/gSZcYJqr 📷: Devin B. Johnson’s “One Flew the Coop” (2022). Money may not grow on trees, but it can help plant millions of them. Congratulations to our client Chestnut Carbon on this first-of-its-kind bank financing! We're proud to be among the supporters of this climate financing structure totaling $210 million.
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve executed a first-of-its-kind project financing deal for U.S. afforestation in the voluntary carbon market. 🎉 This is an incredible milestone, not just for Chestnut but for the broader industry. It demonstrates that large-scale nature-based carbon projects can attract low-cost, mainstream capital. We’re immensely grateful for the support of Microsoft, J.P. Morgan, and an impressive group of lenders and advisors. We hope this landmark financing structure can be a replicable model for developers in the space. Every step we take brings meaningful change to our community. As the lead sponsor of United Way of Greater Los Angeles's 2025 #WalkUnitedLA 5K Run/Walk at the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, East West Bank matched up to $100,000—doubling the impact of individual contributions raised to help to support affordable housing, disaster recovery and financial literacy. The event marked our 17th annual participation, with a turnout of 560 East West associates and their friends and family members! Congrats to our top fundraiser, Renee Sun, Managing Director of Retail Banking, SoCal Division, and to all those who went the extra mile to drive dollars to these key community initiatives!

Employee well-being is top of mind for us! We assembled a lineup of activities this summer to help associates decompress and reconnect with themselves and each other: A wheel throwing class, where they learned the fundamentals of pottery and the therapeutic benefits of shaping their own clay creations; a flower arranging class that fostered creativity while providing a supportive space to collaborate and exchange ideas; and a juice bar event where associates enjoyed freshly pressed fruit juice in the vibrant courtyard near our Pasadena headquarters.

To reflect on the moment, Agnes Lew, our head of Private Banking, spoke with Daphna Nazarian, Chair of The Wallis’ Board of Directors, on the role the arts can play in restoring resilient communities.
