I had the opportunity to speak at Shoptalk this week about how search is changing. For a long time, search meant working around the limits of machines — keywords, filters, and a lot of guesswork. That’s shifting. With LLMs, people can describe what they want in their own words and AI translates that to leverage our current search systems in much more approachable ways. That shift plays to Etsy’s strengths. Our unique inventory is created by real people, described in human language, without a highly structured catalog. That used to make search harder but now it gives us the context we need to build much more expressive search and discovery interfaces. The work is in blending human taste with machine understanding so the experience still feels distinctly Etsy. Grateful to Sarah Engel for the conversation, and to the Shoptalk team for bringing together people doing this work in real time.
“Discovery is more often happening off-site… the site becomes more of a confidence boost into the conversion.” A line that captured an industry shift, from our Redefining Site Search and Discovery session, which featured insights from: Sarah Engel, President, January Digital Rafe Colburn, Chief Product & Technology Officer, Etsy Colleen Waters, VP, Ecommerce, Steve Madden Tess Kornfield, VP of Data Science and Insights, ThredUp The speakers all see discovery being completely redefined and offered up some key insights: 🔵 Inspiration is happening everywhere, not just on-site. 🔵 Search is evolving from keywords to conversational, intent-driven experiences. 🔵 The role of the site is shifting from discovery to conversion confidence. “Conversational search is going to come to dominate.” At the same time, the challenge is getting sharper, not simpler: Matching intent across millions of products, styles, and signals requires more than structure, it requires meaning. “Personalization… is showing up in my life and understanding my life.” From visual search to natural language queries, brands are building systems that capture inspiration wherever it starts, and turn it into action.

We’re honored to be named a Gold Employer on the 2026 Where You Work Matters List. 🏅 This recognition is especially meaningful because it’s based on real outcomes—how people grow, advance, and build lasting careers. At Etsy, that means investing in our people through development programs, internal mobility, and a culture rooted in creativity and care. We believe meaningful work should also create meaningful opportunities. Thank you to the teams who make Etsy what it is, and for this exciting recognition. 🧡

Over the past year, we’ve been focused on one thing: returning Etsy to durable growth. Today, I led my first earnings call as CEO and shared the progress we’re making. In Q4, we delivered $3.6 billion in consolidated GMS, returned Etsy marketplace GMS to slight growth, reached a new quarterly consolidated revenue record, and continued to build momentum in our app. Last night we also announced the decision to sell Depop to eBay. This allows us to focus exclusively on the core Etsy marketplace, where we see the compelling opportunity to drive growth in ways that matter most to our buyers and sellers. We believe this is a strong outcome for Etsy's shareholders, and a positive next step for all involved. We’re proud of the role we’ve played in Depop’s evolution, helping it reach the next generation of shoppers and become the fastest-growing fashion resale marketplace in the U.S. - and we believe that eBay’s desire to invest in Depop will further strengthen its position in the circular economy. At Etsy, the work ahead is clear. We have more to do to return to sustained, durable growth, we’re grounded in what makes Etsy special, and confident in the opportunity ahead. At the same time, we’ll continue to shape Etsy’s longer-term direction by leaning into what makes this marketplace truly distinctive — human creativity, and meaningful connection. I've been a part of two significant Etsy turnarounds already: first starting in 2018 as Chief Product Officer and more recently running Depop. In both cases, the biggest unlock wasn't a single bold idea or strategic initiative. It was sharp focus and strong execution: pinpointing what matters most to customers, and building the operating discipline to deliver consistently. That’s the muscle we've been strengthening to deliver another turnaround - one which propels Etsy to our next great chapter. I’m grateful to our teams, our sellers, and our buyers who continue to build this marketplace with us. — Kruti To watch the full video earnings call, see investors.etsy.com.

This week, we hosted 10 incredible sellers to join us for a day rooted in connection, education, and celebration at Etsy HQ. 💌 The day created space for fun conversations and inspiration, from personalized shop optimization coaching, to brunch with Etsy senior leadership, and even the opportunity to hear directly from buyers on what is most important to them when shopping from small businesses. Plus, a little Galentine’s-themed fun! A huge thank you to the sellers who joined us and brought their creativity, honesty, and heart into the room. ✨

You can now buy Etsy items directly through all three major platforms that have launched AI-powered commerce. These channels are early. There’s plenty of noise and hype. What matters is simpler: this helps real Etsy sellers get discovered by buyers who are already using these tools to look for something special — including people who might not have thought to start on Etsy at all. We’re doing this early because our job is to help sellers reach buyers wherever discovery happens, and because you don’t learn much about new channels by watching from the sidelines. It’s about using technology to remove friction so more human connection can happen through special items. That’s also what Etsy’s about. https://lnkd.in/eeC5Pd2q

Searching Etsy isn’t like searching anywhere else. 🧶 Our marketplace is full of one-of-a-kind, handmade, vintage, and custom items — which means there’s no single “right” keyword for what a buyer is looking for. That uniqueness is what makes Etsy special. It’s also what makes searching on Etsy especially hard. In our latest Code as Craft post, our Search Relevance team goes under the hood on how we’re using LLMs to better understand each shopper’s intent, enabling us to connect buyers with truly relevant results and help our sellers’ unique items get discovered by the people seeking their special items. Behind every small business is a real person – and often, a family. Last month, Etsy was honored with the Champion for Child Care Award from New Yorkers United for Child Care, recognizing our advocacy for universal, flexible, and simple child care systems that reflect how people actually work today. Our community of over 5 million sellers – the vast majority of whom are women running one-person businesses – depend on policies that make work more sustainable for families, caregivers, and independent workers alike, so they can grow their businesses and thrive. We’re proud to support a more equitable, family-friendly future of work, and grateful for the recognition for helping push this forward.
