About us

Jackson Family Wines, based in Sonoma County – in the heart of California’s wine country – is one of the few family-owned and operated winery groups of its kind. Founded in 1983 with a focus on artisanal wines of distinct character and quality, Jackson Family Wines’ portfolio of wineries includes Kendall-Jackson, La Crema, Freemark Abbey, Murphy-Goode, Stonestreet, Matanzas Creek and Cambria (plus many more!), as well as a collection of luxury wineries such as Cardinale, Lokoya and Verite. Today, the Jackson family carries the formidable legacy of founder Jess Jackson forward to the next generation. We continue to embed our core values of land stewardship, inspired winemaking and a respect for wine at the table into the company’s local and worldwide practices. All of JFW’s wineries reflect a unique quality story steeped in extraordinary vineyards, remarkable artisan winemaking and the dedication of hard working, talented individuals. This philosophy is often called sustainability, but for us it’s all about providing environmental, social and economic benefits that our family, employees and community can all share – now and in the future. 2015 North Bay Business Journal's Best Places to Work Winner!

  • Today, we join the wine community in remembering Marvin R. Shanken and honoring the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. For more than five decades, Marvin helped bring people closer to wine. Through Wine Spectator, he crafted a place where vintners, winemakers, and wine lovers could come together around a shared passion. At Jackson Family Wines, his contributions feel personal. Our longstanding relationship with Marvin and Wine Spectator spans much of our history, sharing the Jackson family’s vision and our wines with readers around the world. We are grateful to have been part of the publication alongside so many others who shared his belief in wine’s place in our culture. Marvin R. Shanken was also a champion of wine education and understood that wine’s future depended on people having the opportunity to learn. Through the Wine Spectator Scholarship Foundation, more than $40 million has been raised for wine education, opening doors for people who will shape our industry for years to come. His philanthropy also extended beyond wine, including his work with his wife, Hazel, to help establish the Els for Autism Foundation. Our hearts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Wine Spectator and M. Shanken Communications family.

With decades of global leadership experience and a collaborative, long-term mindset, Tim brings a fresh perspective as we enter our next chapter as a family-owned company built for generations.   This moment also marks the upcoming retirement of Rick Tigner, whose leadership over three decades helped shape Jackson Family Wines into the values-driven global organization it is today.
