Congratulations to Jessie Uehling, associate professor of botany and plant pathology, on being named a 2026-27 Fulbright Scholar! As one of three OSU Fulbright awardees, her project will be based in Melbourne, Australia studying plant-beneficial fungi from fire-impacted plants to help bring back displaced native plant species as part of fire restoration. Well done, Jessie! 🌟

A packed house welcomed Dr. Temple Grandin last week for a discussion of her book, The Grandin Papers! With standing room only, more than half of the audience was made up of OSU students, 4-H members, and FFA members eager to learn from a leader whose ideas have transformed animal agriculture. We’re proud to create opportunities for students and future leaders to learn directly from voices like Dr. Grandin’s. Shout out to everyone who helped make this important conversation possible, especially Dr. Juliana Ranches and her lab team!

This is Ricky, he started as a student intern in 2017, and now is OSU faculty at Southern Oregon Research & Extension Center! Ricky has a passion for entomology, and loves the opportunity to be both in the field and the lab. Right now, his research is focused on a major challenge for local vineyards: identifying the insect vector behind Grapevine Red Blotch Disease, a disease that diminishes fruit quality. Pinpointing the culprit among treehoppers and alfalfa hoppers would alleviate huge stress for regional growers! Watch to the end to find out Ricky's favorite insects and which one smells like a green apple sucker! __ #OSUAgSci #GoBeavs #SOREC #Entomology

Meet Joey DeShields, a PhD student at OSU working out of the Southern Oregon Research & Extension Center (SOREC)! 🍇🔬 Joey is tackling Grapevine Trunk Disease, a major threat to vineyards worldwide. He's investigating how native biologicals (bacteria and fungi already in the soil) can protect vines in Oregon’s cool climate. Joey appreciates the student experience at SOREC: A dynamic blend of high-tech laboratory analysis and hands-on field research. Because he works at an extension unit, he collaborates directly with local commercial and residential growers to diagnose plant diseases and develop real-world management recommendations. See how student research at OSU is directly helping local agriculture thrive! 🙌 #OSUAgSci #GoBeavs #StudentSpotlight

Each summer, the quiet waters of Willapa Bay in Southwest Washington transform into a shark superhighway. OSU's Big Fish Lab researchers are uncovering why sevengill sharks — one of the Pacific Northwest’s oldest and most overlooked apex predators — return here year after year, and what they mean for the local ecosystem. OSU's Big Fish Lab is featured in this Oregon Field guide episode: https://lnkd.in/eVZgKyqA __ Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences Oregon State University
