The guests most likely to be loyal to your brand are the least likely to use 3PD to find new restaurants. Among consumers who order a few times a month, only 9% use delivery apps for discovery. Nearly a third rarely or never use them to find somewhere new. They already know where they want to go, they're just placing the order through an app you don't own, and sharing data that you can't use. We're looking for copywriters to join the team. I don't really care if you've worked at an agency. I do care that you have a portfolio of work, even if it's spec work. Over the past 10 years, we've gotten a boatload of requests from people trying to break in. You'd be shocked how few actually put in the work. I don't care whether you can use big words, write in proper paragraph form, and have any idea what to do with an em dash. I do care that you're funny, probably dabbled with improv or standup, and write insightful ideas simply and with humanity. I care whether your work is above "replacement level." That's a stolen sports term that means - would you be interchangeable for some other writer and roughy the same level of work would happen. The same is true of AI. If Claude or Jasper can deliver more insight and better ideas, then that's at replacement level. But, a funny, insightful, cutting writer and ideator with Claude is a freaking superhuman. So yes, we want someone who is not scared of being replaced as much as superpowered by integrating these tools into their workflow to ship better, more fun, more interesting, and even more human, work. If you want to move customers to more profitable first-party channels, start by giving them better information. Half of third-party orderers would switch channels for 10-20% lower prices. 54% of customers who've already made the switch did so to get a lower price. Nearly every brand is already charging these premiums or more in 3PD. Don’t just hope they’ll notice the difference. When guests review the menu, remind them that they get the best price direct. When they're checking out, show them how much they're keeping in their pocket by ordering with you. They'll come back. There are a lot of things that make this shift complicated. New study on the opportunity with first party drops next week.
Next week, we’ll be dropping a new study that explores the relationship between 3PD and first party ordering. I’ll start with the most obvious point now. The biggest reason people switch boils down to economics. If you make it clear to guests that they save money and pay lower fees through first party, they will begin migrating over.
