Rule your business with Rippling AI

About us

Rippling is a workforce management system that eliminates the friction from running a business. Today, most companies struggle with everything from routine tasks, like running payroll, to cross-functional planning, like aligning on headcount. That’s because all their data related to people, processes, and systems is scattered in a hundred places. Rippling has every application you need to run your business—from applicant tracking and payroll to IT and expenses—in one place. But unlike other systems, Rippling sits on top of a unified platform. Data flows dynamically between Rippling’s applications, giving every team a shared source of truth, the power to automate processes, and access to the insights they need. This allows your business to execute better, faster. Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.2B from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock. If you’re interviewing right now, or plan to in the future, these 7 tips are for you. I've spent years hiring at some of the fastest-growing companies in the world, and this is what the candidates who get job offers do differently 👇 𝟭. 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 ❌ Tell them you can do the job ✅ Show them you can do the job Actions speak louder than words. 𝟮. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 ❌ Wait until the interview for first contact ✅ Reach out beforehand with a thoughtful intro ⭐️ Send a note afterwards with a key takeaway I am not sure why this step is so controversial!? 𝟯. 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 ❌ “I consistently hit quota” ✅ “I hit quota 20/24 months. Ranked 2 on team of 21" Specificity builds credibility. 𝟰. 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 You will get asked about your misses. ❌ “My territory got cut…Product didn’t ship…” ✅ “I failed to adequately multithread my key deal ” Top candidates have a driver mindset, not a passenger one. 𝟱. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 ❌ Stop at the failure ✅ “After losing that deal, I created a multi-thread "Deal Flag" in my Gong pipeline report. I've asked my manager to pressure-test my deals against it during our pipeline reviews.” Mistakes aren't the problem, failing to learn from them is. 𝟲. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 You will be asked about collaboration. ❌ “I help mentor new teammates” ✅ Use the STAR framework: “Our team missed quota two months in a row. Our ACVs were lower due to poor attach rates of product X. I tested a few different Demo use cases that more clearly highlighted the value of X. I then shared what worked with the team, conducted a training and the next month our attach rate of product X went from 15% to 25%.” People are hiring for impact, not motion. 𝟳. 𝗜𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 ❌ Let the call end without closing the interviewer ✅ Ask, “What reservations, if any, do you have about my ability to succeed in this role?” Surface objections so you have a chance to address them. --------------- I feel strongly about candidates needing to check these 7 boxes, but I'd love to hear what others look for. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗱𝗱?  👇

I get invited to speak at events fairly often. I have done practically none of them. My preferred playbook has always been to keep my head down, have a great time with my team crushing results, and let the work speak for itself. I departed from this long-standing strategy a few months ago when our marketing org asked me to speak at our Rippling on the Road events, and subsequently, to do an ebook and video for our Built to Scale masterclass series. I didn’t say yes because I felt obligated to (although I did). I said yes because I love this company, the challenges and opportunities it presents, and I’m as proud of the work we're doing here as anything I’ve ever been a part of. So I did it, and here is the snazzy trailer to the masterclass video. In this trailer you will see exploding flames, so you know it’s good. In the full video and ebook, I talk about hiring globally, and about recruiting at Rippling in general. So I guess I’m now a guy that does these types of things. Link in comments.

Your idea isn’t the problem. How you communicate it is. In part (2 of 3) of Rippling's Venture Corner with Vanessa Kahkesh, I explain. Early in my career, when I’d spot a problem and make recommendations to my manager, it almost always turned into a bunch of back-and-forths, ultimately fizzling out with no changes made. The problem wasn’t the ideas, It was my delivery. Over time, I figured out how to make recommendations that solicit immediate action, and turned it into a simple framework: S.P.I.R.A.L. 👉 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Provide context. Your manager may not be as close to the details as you. Keep it clear. Keep it concise. 👉 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺: Make sure you have a real problem. It's your job to decipher "volume vs volume". Meaning is this happening often, or do you just a loud, squeaky wheel? Provide at least two real examples! 👉 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: How does this problem impact outcomes you care about? Avoid subjective terms like "often, big". Be data-backed. 👉 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: This is where you demonstrate your ability to be solution oriented. Make your recommendation clear, but be sure to include alternative options...listing the pros and cons of each. 👉 𝗔𝘀𝗸: Be explicit. What needs to change? Who? How? When? 👉 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁: Don't burry the lead! The TLDR, put this at the top. Save this. Use this. Not only will your recommendations solicit action, I guarantee you’ll stand out from your peers.
