Trust The Bum

About us

In 2010, we started making products to protect our friends and families from the harmful effects of the sun. Since then, we’ve grown a bit, but we haven’t changed. Our Cocoa Beach office is an old Florida beach house off A1A. Our Moonlight Beach office is in the groovy little town of Encinitas, California, just a block away from the sand. And like any good beach day, everyone’s welcome to the bonfire. Everything we do is to help people make more meaningful connections outside, so we put a lot of love into our products and we hope you like them, too.

Did you know our HQ in Encinitas, CA used to be an auto repair shop? Over the years, we’ve considered the Concept Shop to be the ultimate hangout spot for staff and our community. Cozy vintage couches, gumball machines, records always spinning, and maybe even a few bananas (if it's grocery day). This year, we decided to give the shop a refresh (minus the auto shop garage door; some things are sacred). However, we couldn't have done it without the tenacious, DIY- spirited, design-detailed, stereophonic building, storyteller, humorist, and part-time director, @jaredeberhardt. If you haven't stopped by since the renovation, consider this your sign. Don't worry, the runts and Sonny stickers are still free.💛

We’re excited to share a new film project we worked on with Ambassador Mikey February and his creative partners, Spearhead Productions.   Set in Fiji to an incredible soundtrack featuring jazz legends like Hugh Masekela and Azar Lawrence, Sun Song is about friends coming together for a memorable run of surf and sharing it with new Sun Bum ambassador and freakish local talent James Kusitino.   What you won’t see in this film? How it almost never even happened. Enter our teammate Max who, among many other talents, can now list “surfboard sherpa and film project 911 first responder” to his resume.   Here’s how it went down: Max was in the SD airport one morning this past spring, having just finished a week-long event in Salt Lake City. Was it fun? Of course. Was it grueling? You bet. As he’s waiting for his gear, dreaming of some wind-down time at home, he learns that Fiji Airways misplaced some of our ambassadors' surfboard bags, leaving five paradise-bound professional surfers with their gear stranded in Texas. And with a targeted, short-lived large swell on the horizon, the only option was to hand-deliver a new batch of boards right away – with the flight to Nadi leaving LA in about six hours.     After a quick pitstop at home in Encinitas, Max swapped his snowboard gear for boardshorts — canceled plans with loved ones and friends, and began a series of board pickups that had him rolling up to LAX with 90-minutes to spare and two giant bags stuffed with ten surfboards.   If you’re wondering if Max successfully navigated the 11-hour flight, the two-hour van transfer from Sujie, a liaison with a local charter boat driver to make it to the legendary surf spot Cloudbreak just in time for the first signs of the new swell, watch Sun Song.   Hey, Max: that expense report for the neck pillow and Fiji Golds is approved. Vinaka!

Every year we head to the greatest concert venue on earth: the porch next to our office in Cocoa Beach, FL. So how did Rio Kosta end up on our teeny-tiny porch? Kosta & brother/collaborator Aristotle Galanopoulos grew up in Cocoa Beach and they’ve come to some of our other shows. Plus, some of our crew in San Diego are longtime fans (thanks for putting us on, Drew & Max). So this show felt more like a homecoming, with everyone lunching at Green Room, a favorite organic spot down the street, before blessing neighbors, friends and fans with all of their hits and a stripped-down version of “Save My Soul” for a wildly appreciative audience. Watch Rio Kosta’s Cocoa Beach, FL homecoming on our YouTube channel before they hit the road again.🎶🤘

Thank you, Intern Class of 2026, for adding bright rays of new ideas and energy to our office this summer. We asked a few of them to give us their version of a Yelp review and here's what they said (no coercion or free snacks were involved for this particular assignment): Kaiya, PR Influencer: "Truly a memorable summer filled with great people, culture, learning, advice, and meaningful conversations. I’m grateful for the trust I was given to take ownership of a summer project I really cared about and make it my own in a Sun Bum way. This internship reaffirmed that this is the industry and space I love." Paige, Research & Development: "I got to step into a role I had no previous experience in and was given the opportunity to learn, get advice, and explore new possibilities for what I can do with my major. I learned that your education doesn’t limit your career possibilities, and I never felt pigeonholed. Plus, I was surrounded by a great culture and had close access to Slurpees!" Eve, Accounts Receivable: "Got to grow both professionally and personally, wear so many different hats, and learn every part of the finance department instead of being pigeonholed into just accounts receivable. I gained so much confidence, and everyone was so kind and supportive." Thanks again for all the fun. Remember: just use sunscreen.💛

"I applied to become an intern because I’ve always been a fan of Sun Bum. Growing up in San Diego, I would drive past the Sun Bum office and see the billboards and always thought it was so cool. I followed the brand on social media, and it truly looked like an amazing company to be a part of—one whose mission and values I genuinely believed in and aligned with. My internship ended up being the best experience I could have asked for. I was surrounded by an incredible team of people who cared about me not just professionally, but as a person. I learned and grew so much, all while having a lot of fun—it never felt like just work, it felt meaningful. The biggest lessons I took away were to be relational, stay passionate, and embrace a work-hard, play-hard mindset. Now, I’m grateful to be working full-time in eCommerce across SunBum.com, Amazon, Target, Ulta, and other online retailers. I feel so lucky to be part of something so special and to work alongside such an amazing group of people.” -Luke, Social Media Intern class of 2024 Our Summer Internship program is now taking applications, and we have the following internships open this summer: - Finance x Accounts Receivable - Finance x Accounts Payable - Marketing x Brand – PR/Influencer - Marketing x Creative Production - Operations x Procurement - Product Development x Research & Development - Sales x Customer Development Please email internship@sunbum.com with your name, resume, cover letter and which department excites you the most in the subject by the end of this month! Can’t wait for another great summer!💛
