During her time in South Africa, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Angélique Kidjo visited the Hillbrow Community Health Centre. It serves as a vital healthcare hub for the densely populated inner-city area of Johannesburg, providing essential services for women before, during, and after pregnancy. There, she met Philani and her 6-week-old baby, Melissa, who received one vaccine that protects her against six preventable childhood diseases – including polio and whooping cough – all at once. "Saving children's lives doesn't always require complex solutions. The tools to keep them safe and healthy are simple and affordable." - Angélique Kidjo

“Together, we will defeat Ebola.” U-Reporters in DR Congo know it all too well: Ebola outbreaks can have devastating consequences on communities. That’s why Moise, Victorine and their young peers are taking to the streets, helping people learn how to keep their children and families safe from the disease.

This is what aid cuts look like in Somalia - empty beds in a health centre, pregnant women and newborns unable to access healthcare. Walk with UNICEF’s James Elder to understand just how much we’re losing. Globally, if current trends continue, 27.3 million children will die in the world before their fifth birthday by 2030 – nearly half of them newborns. We call for urgent funding of children’s health in Somalia and around the world.

In Nuwakot, Nepal, children are becoming students again in temporary learning centres set up with UNICEF’s support. The devastating floods a month ago impacted the education of 14,000 children across 62 schools and centres. UNICEF has supported the establishment of 48 temporary learning centres, helping more than 1,400 children in flood-affected areas return to learning. We are also providing essential learning materials and psychosocial support to help children recover and continue their education. Thousands of children and their families are still enduring the consequences of the floods every day. Support them. Donate now: https://lnkd.in/e6bckfWJ

Watch how UNICEF and partners are taking every route possible to ensure communities receive an additional layer of protection from diseases through vaccination. “Taha's story is sadly not unique. What he and his family are going through is being repeated across the country, hitting a population already weakened by years of persistent food and nutrition crises.” - UNICEF Yemen’s Akhil Iyer “The children I have met here do not talk about geopolitics. They ask about home, school, the people they left behind. They ask where they are going to sleep tonight. These should not be the defining questions of a childhood.” Hunger and malnutrition are stalking Yemen's children as violence escalates. Despite the loss and devastation they’ve experienced, children in Gaza like Maryan, 10, are excited about learning, making new friends and returning to the classroom. UNICEF supports over 330,000 children in 200 learning spaces across Gaza. UNICEF is also providing recreational activities and access to mental health and psychosocial support. #ForEveryChild, education in safety.
