Teen hiring fell to its lowest level on record last summer, and forecasters predict it could be even lower this year. It's no secret the job market is tough, and teenagers aren't immune to the low-hire environment as: • Rising inflation and oil prices push up costs for businesses • Self-checkout and automation replace cashier and customer service roles • Competition from older workers grows as they re-enter the part-time market Still, there are some opportunities for teens if they know where to look. Some roles in demand this year: lifeguards, shelf stockers, camp counselors, hosts, and servers. Learn more with USA TODAY: https://lnkd.in/eySmvxKn

Why are American consumers reporting the lowest sentiment readings on record – yet continuing to spend as if all was right with the world? Economic data of all types makes the question a true mystery. The University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index sank to an all-time low of 44.8 in May, for the third-straight monthly decline. Inflation is simmering throughout the economy. And the job market is tepid at best. Spending, meanwhile, continues to rise, although at increasingly slower paces. So where are consumers getting their mojo? Famed investing strategist Ed Yardeni has a theory: We’re living in a "G-shaped" economy.

I'm really proud to share my latest feature, a labor of love many months in the making. It's 2026. Why does it still suck to be a homeowner trying to sell and buy another property at the same time? I wrote about this in a big splashy story in 2019, back when the big idea was "iBuyers..." and we all know how well that turned out. 🙃 Now, a lot of smart money is going into flexible financing that allows a "buy before you sell" approach. Will it work? Early signs are promising, and consumers are delighted. 😍 Big thanks to everyone who helped with this, from Mike Murray to Justin O'Neill and Todd Galde. I love this kind of story, which exposes the consumer pain point and shows creative problem-solving. It also allows me to work collaboratively with some of the best PR folks in #housing. ❤️

The bodies of all missing workers at the Washington paper facility where a chemical tank exploded have been recovered, bringing the death toll to 11. The explosion at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company in Longview, Washington, happened the morning of May 26 when a tank containing white liquor, used to make paper, ruptured, releasing hundreds of thousands of gallons of chemicals. The blast was deemed one of the worst industrial disasters in modern state history. Many were in an employee break room during a shift change when the explosion occurred, Longview Fire Department officials said. Read more: bit.ly/4tZOaa1
