A company that lacks internal data can obtain a similar effect through working with a market intelligence company.Abel Delgado shared thisI didn't expect to be saying this, but I actually think the onslaught of AI slop over the last year has been good for one particular content stream. Data journalism. When every team can produce serviceable content at scale, the race to the bottom is obvious. More content, faster, cheaper, rinse and repeat vanilla mush that we're all sweating to get out the door. But some b2b saas brands are going the other direction and professionalising their data-driven content streams. I'm totally here for it 🥰 Three really good examples of saas companies doing data journalism that 1) is on brand and 2) actually is newsworthy enough to make it into ye olde fashioned newspapers: Ramp's EconLab, a Substack tracking economic signals through Ramp's spend data. Their data journalist builds a personal brand, and Ramp gets a research publication that's respected enough to get cited by the Wall Street Journal. That's a backlink I think we'd all appreciate! PS - thanks Jimmy Daly for getting me on to this example through a recent LinkedIn post Carta built their Data Desk, which is a dedicated research function around cap table data that only Carta has. Compensation benchmarks, founder dilution trends and pre-money valuations are drawn from actual equity documents, not survey responses and turned into a podcast, a newsletter and rolling indexes. I've mentioned this one before, but ActiveCampaign turned a 1,000-person AI adoption survey into an ongoing maturity model that ended up with them launching their AI Lab, a sort of data + content mashup with tonnes of free tools and benchmark data. The design is so good 😍 What sets these three apart right now is 1) they all managed to get leverage proprietary product/user data that immediately creates a moat because no other company has it, and 2) they all invested to people who know how to turn data into insights, and insights into industry news. None of those things are easy, so hats off. Anyone else seen really great examples of B2B companies building things that look and feel like proper data journalism?

Too many AI initiatives focus on automation before fixing data fragmentation, operational silos, and incentive misalignment. Where are we seeing real ROI? • Route optimization in dense urban corridors • Predictive maintenance in fleet-heavy operations • Port and warehouse throughput analytics Where are projects stalling? • Cross-border data integration • Informal supply chain segments • Regulatory bottlenecks The competitive advantage will not come from “using AI.” It will come from deploying it where infrastructure maturity supports it.

Rabbin Rupon Hopefully they'll catch on soon. Ultimately, companies are made up of humans selling products/services to other humans based on creating connections so, it stands to reason that you'd still use, you know, humans, to do that rather than a large language model that imitates humans. LLM tools are great for certain tasks but some companies seem to have gone overboard and are now correcting: https://futurism.com/companies-fixing-ai-replacement-mistakes

Abel Delgado liked thisAbel Delgado liked this#mining A mining company in Peru can spend a decade doing everything right, legally, environmentally, socially, and still not get to build. Southern Copper's Tía María project is the case in point. The company pursued a strictly legal, compliance-driven strategy: it met every environmental requirement and satisfied regulatory expectations. It still took over a decade of local opposition, protests and highway blockades before the Peruvian government granted final construction approval in 2019, only for renewed protests to suspend it again before formal regulatory approval could move it forward. That's the part of regulatory risk that doesn't show up in a country's permit checklist. In Latin America, developing a mine can require 200 to 400 permits from roughly 30 different authorities in Peru, or up to 300 permits in Chile. Average permitting timelines across the region run 5 to 15 years, compared to 2 to 3 years in Australia. But even full compliance with that process doesn't guarantee a project moves forward, because a meaningful share of regulatory risk in the region comes from political and social opposition, not just legal requirements. Compare Tía María to Red Eagle Mining in Colombia, which built early support by working directly with regulators and the local community from the start. Same country, same type of regulatory system, very different outcome. For miners and investors, that means legal compliance is necessary but not sufficient. It's called Content SEO Manager. We first spotted it while analyzing 8,000 content marketing job listings a few months ago. Since it stood out so much, we decided to analyze 1,000+ listings dedicated to this role. Here's what companies expect from a Content SEO Manager: • SEO is no longer optional — it appears in around 60% of listings • Analytics is the second most requested marketing skill • 43% of senior roles already mention AI • Workflow automation is becoming a core responsibility • Storytelling is valued more than writing for senior hires For me, it's a new definition of what successful organic content marketers are expected to do. The Content SEO Manager sits at the intersection of content, SEO, analytics, AI, and growth. It's a role built around owning visibility and business outcomes. And I'm here for it. It makes me wonder whether this is still a new concept for some companies, or whether it's already widely adopted.

Often, CEOs don't get this. They want instant results. Sure things. And ROI guarantees. But that's not marketing. It's a recipe for risk-averse, stressed marketing teams. Want a marketing team that gets results? Give them time and budget to test.

Because you also spent: 👉 the year it took to find out 👉 the leads you didn't get 👉 the customers who bounced 👉 the trust you lost with the ones who didn't Cheap marketing isn't cheap. It's extremely expensive.

Everyone thinks the regional strategy is working. Then reality kicks in. Those few installations were never the beginning of a scalable business. They were isolated units in markets that could never support the commercial and operational structure behind them. That's when the real costs start showing up.
