Amanda Hesser shared thisI put together a detailed list of renovation budget items that can surprise you if you don’t plan for them in advance — I hope it’ll come in handy for you. Also, a hosting tip that we taught our kids from a young age.

Amanda Hesser shared thisFOUR Objects is a clothing company that operates according to its beliefs, rather than beliefs as a marketing lever. It's rare in fashion, and something to be celebrated.Amanda Hesser shared thisWe were honored to be featured in Amanda Hesser's post on her Homeward substack: https://lnkd.in/ehy_sK6U

As part of the launch of Founder Unfriendly: What Investors Won’t Tell You About Getting Funded, we’re hosting a series of live, 30-minute AMAs with experienced founders and operators who’ve been through the process — successfully and unsuccessfully. These sessions are designed to give founders what they rarely get: • An honest look at how investors evaluate opportunities • Clear insight into where the bar actually is (and why) • Practical advice on when to push forward — and when to pause, rethink, or walk away This session we're featuring Amanda Hesser of Food52.

Amanda Hesser shared thisMost communities fail at monetization for one simple reason: They try to charge before they’ve earned trust. People don’t pay for content. They pay for belonging, access, and contribution. When someone feels seen and useful inside a community, paying feels natural. When they don’t, it feels forced. This is what we learned building Food52 — and it’s what I help founders think through now on @Intro. If monetization feels awkward in your business, it’s usually a signal to fix participation first. 👇 Link in comments.

Amanda Hesser shared thisI’ve built communities that grew organically into millions of followers and generated >$100M in revenue. And the key to monetization wasn’t a pricing trick. It was participation. Most people try to monetize attention. They rack up followers, crank out content, then throw on a pricing model and hope it works. But audiences don’t pay because you post. They pay because they feel ownership. The moment someone contributes, they stop being a viewer. They become a member. If you want a community that can be supported with revenue later, start here: Design participation that has purpose. Not “leave a comment.” Real actions. Make it easy for people to: 1) Create something 2) Try something 3) Share results 4) Help each other 5) Earn status by contributing And don’t make it a free-for-all. Great communities have leadership. Taste. Direction. A reason to gather. Do that, and monetization becomes a natural next step. Because you’re not charging strangers. You’re offering more to people who already feel like they belong. I get a lot of DMs asking how to build community, so I created a monthly package on @Intro. We’ll design your participation loops and the structure that makes the community stick (and eventually pays).

Amanda Hesser shared thisIf you're looking for a personal assistant, I highly recommend checking out Faye -- they pair you with someone who has the skills you need, and the communication and quality of the work is great.Amanda Hesser shared thisThis is your 2026 reminder to send the cold email. One of the highlights from last year was getting Amanda Hesser to try Faye after sending her a cold DM via her Substack, Homeward. Anyone who's been to our apartment knows about our obsession with SchoolHouse and Danish design, so having Amanda trust us with her move was genuinely an honor. So, send the cold note. Put yourself out there. At worst, you won't hear back. At best, you might work with someone you deeply admire.

Amanda Hesser shared thisThis week, I wrote about how our renovation is as much about my own need for renewal as it is about rebuilding our house. Also: a bright and spicy citrus salad for the new year..

Amanda Hesser shared thisWhenever I read Christene Barberich's A Tiny Apt or her IG posts, I feel grateful that she’s let people in to see how she thinks about design, how she shops, what she’s paying attention to. I’ve learned a lot from her. This week, she paid a visit to Homeward, and it’s a wonderful read, filled with snapshots of her home and life. Hope you’ll check it out!Inside a 650-square-foot cabin made with straw and corkInside a 650-square-foot cabin made with straw and cork

Amanda Hesser liked thisAmanda Hesser liked this30 moms gathered for a sunset dinner this week, and the conversation was so good, we kept talking through a surprise rain shower. Mother Ventures brought together mother founders, funders, and friends, and everyone walked away with new ideas, connections, and inspiration. The energy was electric. There's something different about building a fund around the mom-as-consumer thesis — for one, we got zero drop-off leading up to the event. Instead, people asked, "Can I bring my daughter too?" Women talked about business and career, but also childcare and lunch box favorites. At the dinner: ⚡ A head of investment banking shared her detailed advance meal-planning system with a former NY Times food editor ⚡ A leading fertility doctor spoke to Fox News from a guest room about AOC's egg freezing ⚡ One mother discovered her daughter is the camp counselor to another mother's son ⚡ Three mothers attended with their grown daughters, who are now mothers themselves When you bring powerhouse moms together and give them permission to be their full selves, magic follows. There's power, and there's warmth, and there's a shared drive to build a better future for everyone's families. The conversations were so deep and energizing that the rain passed and the dinner went on. Thank you to all our LPs and founders who make Mother Ventures possible! Thrilled to be building with you and excited to gather again soon.

Amanda Hesser liked thisAmanda Hesser liked thisLast week, we hosted our second Summer Wednesday at Food52 HQ, and this time, we shook things up with martinis on the rooftop. Our Test Kitchen team led a hands-on martini-making demo, where guests got to try their hand at mixing their own perfect pour. Alongside the martinis, we served perfectly paired bites, created an interactive (and edible!) tablescape, poured additional summer sips from our friends at Winebow and The Boston Beer Company company and sent guests home with curated giveaways and a special gift from Teakhaus. All set against one of our favorite ingredients: summer views from the Food52 rooftop. We’ll be back on the roof for our next Summer Wednesday in August. Reach out to your Food52 Partnership Director for more information. We hope to see you there!

Amanda Hesser liked thisAmanda Hesser liked thisToday, Fishs Eddy launches our new collaboration with Hamilton the Musical—and it feels like a pretty perfect marriage. An iconic Broadway musical about the founding of this country, paired with a 40-year-old New York City institution that has always had a soft spot for American history, old stories, odd characters, and putting them all on a plate. A huge thank-you to Noah Sprock and the entire team at Creative Goods Merchandise team, to Ben Lenovitz for partnering with us on the artwork, and, of course, to Lin-Manuel Miranda for giving the project his blessing. You can find the collection at all three Fishs Eddy stores, on our website, and at the Hamilton theatre at the Richard Rogers Theatre. History is now dishwasher safe!! https://lnkd.in/g2pmtNDw

Amanda Hesser liked thisAmanda Hesser liked thisI'm stoked to announce an Epic Gardening collab with the Obama Foundation - a FULL tour of the new garden landscapes at the upcoming Obama Center and a conversation with President Obama! Myself and a few other awesome creators sat down with the President to speak about the philosophy behind the center, and of course I had a few questions about the garden spaces... First off, from a raw gardening approach, it's awesome to see a civic project put edible gardens front and center. The Eleanor Roosevelt Fruit & Vegetable Garden being a true standout and aptly named, as Mrs. Roosevelt championed Victory Gardens, which provided up to 40% of our produce during WWII. But even techniques like "nurse logs,” where they used logs from trees felled during construction to inoculate fresh soil with the local microbial flora, to me, showcased an advanced approach to garden spaces, all of which I'm excited to share with you in an upcoming video. The center is OPEN and ready for you to check it out. If you're in the area, I recommend stopping by!

What happens when a small specialty coffee shop evolves into an eatery and prepares to scale nationally? That’s the story of Mokas Coffee & Eatery. From its beginnings in Salina, Kansas, Mokas has transformed over 20 years — adding a full kitchen, bringing roasting in-house, and building a guest experience centered on quality, community, and connection. Now, with four locations and its first franchisee signed, Mokas is gearing up for thoughtful regional growth across the central U.S. It’s not just about coffee. And it’s not just about food, according to leader Jason Ingermanson. It’s about creating spaces where people slow down, share conversations, and leave smiling. READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/eVqXrrnR

Premium wine producers are reporting double-digit growth across Latin America. As traditional markets flatten, wineries are increasingly pivoting to regions where young, affluent consumers are driving a new wave of interest. The model for building and maintaining a successful wine business used to be simple: make good wine, market it intelligently and watch your sales grow. That is a slight oversimplification, but not by too much. Between 1960 and 2010 in the U.S. alone—what quickly became the world’s biggest and most powerful wine market—wine consumption rose from 0.90 gallons per person or 53 million total table wine gallons to 2.57 gallons per person, or 707 total table wine gallons, according to the Wine Institute. That’s an increase of 1,233.96% in total wine consumption over 50 years. But. Then the growth levelled off. Last year, the U.S. consumed 2.54 gallons per person, for a total of 717 million overall, down from 2.65 gallons and 764 gallons respectively in 2023. Sales became a lot less predictable. Sometimes a grape or wine style would become a Zeitgeist darling, and producers in that sector would reap the benefits. (But how long will the party last? It’s often boom one year, bust the next). In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that it’s essential for vintners to not just tweak marketing tactics to appeal more to certain demographics in established markets like Europe and the U.S. (especially amid tariff challenges), but to seek out new markets in Africa, India, and also, certain pockets of Latin America. Broadly speaking, there’s a “strong demand for expressive, fruit-forward styles,” says Kamara Snow, vice president and general manager of Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Travel Retail Sales and Export Division. “We’re seeing robust growth in wine exports across Central and South America and Mexico, driven by evolving consumer preferences, expanding middle class demographics and a rising appetite for premium and boutique wine experiences.” Get the full story The Drinks Business https://lnkd.in/ex7CQc4S
