I wanted to take a step away from what AI can produce and more about what it still cannot fully interpret: identity, nostalgia, and lived context. Andrew Council reacted on thisAndrew Council reacted on thisThree years ago this month, I started full-time at Red Hat (four years ago if you count my internship). A few weeks ago, I moved teams. From Red Hat Research to Emerging Technologies. It felt like the right moment to look back at these last few years before diving into what comes next. Some of what I had the opportunity to do on the Research team: • Helped build and operate the Open Education Project, which runs university courses on OpenShift AI through the Mass Open Cloud and supports hundreds of students each semester on infrastructure we built. • Deployed and benchmarked LLM inference on OpenShift using KServe, vLLM, and llm-d. • Built tooling to benchmark LLMs deployed on OpenShift, measure inference performance, and trace AI workloads, and wrote about LLM performance metrics for Red Hat Research Quarterly. • Worked directly with research teams to support their needs, including building a custom serving runtime for a multimodal text-to-speech model used by an NSF-funded research team. • Automated the deployment of a complete AI software stack onto fresh OpenShift clusters in under eight minutes. • Contributed to Fedora’s RISC-V architecture support, including kernel work to run on physical hardware. • Spoke at DevConf.US and Boston University, and mentored student teams from Boston University, the College of Charleston, and Olin College. More than anything, the Research team, the Mass Open Cloud, and our university partners taught me how to work at the intersection of research and engineering: taking experimental ideas, testing them on real infrastructure, and turning them into systems that other people can use. I’m grateful to everyone who helped me learn, build, and grow over the last four years. That experience also led naturally into my next role. On Emerging Technologies, I’m now working on agentic AI for OpenShift. My focus is the infrastructure needed to run long-running AI agents securely and reliably in enterprise Kubernetes environments, including durable execution, tool integration, multi-agent workflows, memory and context management, observability, evaluation, and guardrails. We are using OpenClaw as our reference harness. I’m excited to carry those experiences into this next chapter with the Emerging Technologies team, and to work on turning agentic systems from impressive prototypes into dependable infrastructure.

Let’s catch up! 😄 From recruitment on the road to welcoming future Spartans to campus, here are a few recent highlights: Taking UNCG to the Coast 🌊 Our Undergraduate Admissions team headed to Wilmington to connect with incoming Spartans! It was full of great food and connections. Record-Breaking Engagement 📈 Spring Open House and Admitted Spartans Days were a massive success, with this year's Admitted Spartans Day bringing in our highest guest count since March 2023! I’m incredibly grateful for the hard work our campus partners, Admissions staff, and Spartan Guides put in to make this possible. My First CIVSA Conference ✈️ I traveled to a new state for my very first professional conference with the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association! Connecting with the "me" of universities across the country left me inspired, re-energized, and ready to elevate our campus visit experience even further. (Already counting down the days until next year's conference!) Full-Circle Moment 🔄 While volunteering at SOAR (Spartan Orientation, Advising, and Registration) a student stopped me and said, "Hey, I remember you from my tour here!" It was a reminder that my "why" is to help students discover the place they want to call home. It’s been busy, and it doesn't look like it's stopping anytime soon as we prepare to welcome students back to campus. There’s tons in store for the months to come! Working with such an amazing team of black women and students that emobody liberation and community, has been such an honor. At my time at Duke I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Women’s Basketball Team for their Black Excellence game, celebrate 40 years of The Lou, create merch and marketing campaigns that follow current trends, and so much more! Words cannot describe how much growth I’ve been able to achieve with this opportunity. From getting support throughout my masters program to giving support to our students, I can confidently say I am a better professional and person because of Duke, specifically Student Affairs! Sending so much love to my Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture at Duke University team and everyone that has made a long lasting impact!
