Basile Lemba shared thisWe Were Asked to Teach Students How to Network. We Happily Said Yes. When the George Mason University SAME Student Chapter invited BL Networking Institute to deliver a networking seminar, we didn't hesitate. We were excited to work with the students and, more importantly, to address something that is often missing from professional education: Students are told to network—but rarely taught HOW to network. Our seminar focused on two essential questions: How do you successfully network? And: How do you use networking to get a job? The students didn't just listen. They practiced. Through step-by-step instruction and interactive exercises, we showed them how to initiate professional conversations, demonstrate genuine interest, build connections, and turn those connections into meaningful professional relationships. But don't take our word for it. Here's what the students told us afterward: “I really found the specificity of this presentation impactful…I now understand the effect of connection by showing interest. That way, the gap is bridged.” — Z.N. “This Networking workshop was very helpful. I liked that the skills to strengthen your Networking activities are clear, simple and actionable… I’m leaving with a confidence to start and carry out Professional conversations.” — N.P. “Amazing presentation on teaching us how to network. As students, we are not taught how to network. We are just told to do it. This presentation gave us step-by-step instructions. The interactive exercises showed us what to look for…The entire program was great.” — C.D. This is precisely why BL Networking Institute exists. For more than two decades, we have focused on one subject: NETWORKING. We don't believe people should simply be told to “go network.” They should be taught how. Our flagship Networking for Profits® program transforms networking from an ambiguous social activity into a practical, teachable, and actionable professional skill. From university students entering the workforce to experienced professionals, entrepreneurs, executives, and organizations, our mission is the same: Make Networking Easier Than Driving®. If your organization, university, professional association, or student chapter wants to teach people how to network successfully—and how to use networking to create career and business opportunities—we should talk. Basile Lemba shared thisNetworking is not collecting business cards. Yesterday, BL Networking Institute attended the FREEDOM 250 Supplier Matchmaking Expo, hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, DC. 48 exhibitors. 800+ attendees. Buyers and suppliers connecting. It was a powerful reminder: Being in the room creates opportunity. Knowing how to network creates relationships. Effective networking is about starting meaningful conversations, communicating your value, discovering mutual interests, building trust—and knowing how to follow up. At BL Networking Institute, we believe networking is a professional skill and a business discipline that can be learned, practiced, and mastered. Because the value of an event isn't measured by how many people you meet. It's measured by the relationships you build. Basile Lemba shared thisThe Future of Workforce Development Isn’t Just Technical. It’s Human. We recently attended the Strada Education Foundation and Washington Business Journal conference, “Maximizing the Value of Internships.” The message was clear: the most valuable internships develop the whole person—not just the worker. We couldn’t agree more. A student may have the technical knowledge to perform a job. But do they know how to communicate, build relationships, network, demonstrate confidence, navigate professional environments, and create opportunities? Those are the skills that turn education into a career. At BL Networking Institute, we see this gap every day. Parents, students, schools, and organizations are increasingly recognizing that soft skills are no longer optional—they are career-defining. This is our expertise. We don’t just prepare people to get opportunities. We prepare them to maximize those opportunities. That is why BL Networking Institute is becoming the go-to resource for Networking and Soft Skills development. To learn more about BL Networking Institute, visit blnetworking.net

Basile Lemba liked thisBasile Lemba liked thisOne of my biggest takeaways from the TPM National Learning Network Summit: we have many of the tools we need. Now we need more senior business leaders to put investing in human capital at the top of their strategic initiatives. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, through TPM, has developed a rigorous set of tools and employer-led communities of practice across the country. There's a lot we can learn from what's already working. I enjoyed all of the conversations this week and connecting with friends old and new: Jaimie Francis, Basile Lemba, Niki D., Michael Kearney, Michael Carney, Lisa Larson, Deborah Lyzenga and Ahnna Smith. The opportunity is here. We just need more leaders to lean in. #TPMNetwork #iNexus #Leadership

Basile Lemba liked thisBasile Lemba liked thisI’m heading to New York on Friday for The Future of Money, Governance and the Law Summit. AI, blockchain, and quantum technology can sound distant from everyday product work. But I’m interested in the practical questions they raise: How will people know they can trust a digital transaction? How can financial services become easier to access without becoming harder to protect? And what happens when products need to work across different institutions and countries? A product manager needs to understand enough about emerging technology to ask good questions, spot where it could help, and recognize where the real challenge is trust, usability, or coordination. I’m looking forward to hearing how policymakers, financial institutions, and technology teams see those challenges and what they’re learning from putting ideas into practice. If you’ll be at the summit, I’d enjoy meeting you. Gerard Dache #ProductManagement #FutureOfMoney #DigitalTrust #FinancialInnovation

Basile Lemba liked thisBasile Lemba liked thisI am delighted to be attending the AI in Washington Exhibition & Conference 2026, taking place October 5–6 at the American University campus in Washington, D.C. As a Product Manager, I am particularly interested in how artificial intelligence is changing the way we understand users, develop products, make decisions, and transform ideas into practical solutions. AI is not only about technology. It is increasingly about how we design better experiences, solve real problems, and create products that deliver meaningful value. I look forward to meeting AI specialists, CEOs, entrepreneurs, academics, government leaders, diplomats, students, and professionals from many different backgrounds, exchanging ideas and exploring new opportunities for collaboration. From Dubai and Beirut to Washington, bringing people, ideas, and impact together. Where: American University Campus, Washington, D.C. Basile Lemba liked thisBasile Lemba liked thisThe workshop isn’t the transformation. The six months after it are. The easiest day of a leadership workshop is the last one. The hardest day is the first Monday back. On the last day, the team is aligned. Commitments are on the flip chart. Everyone means it. Then Monday arrives with a grant report due, a staffing gap, and forty unread emails. The commitments don't get rejected. They just get postponed until they quietly disappear. For a leadership investment to actually change how a nonprofit operates, three things have to happen after the session: The commitments stay visible. They show up in weekly or monthly operating rhythms, not in a binder. Each commitment has an owner. One named person, clear decision rights, and a defined next step. Someone outside the team holds the mirror. Someone who challenges assumptions, notices avoidance, and asks the uncomfortable question: has behavior actually changed? That third one is hardest to do from the inside. Teams under pressure are very good at explaining why this month isn't the right month. At Nonprofit Realm, we stay with leadership teams through implementation: the check-ins, the stalled commitments, and the hard conversations the workshop surfaced but didn't resolve. Think of the last leadership retreat your team did. Which commitment is still alive today? #NonprofitLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveLeadership

The Summit Awards Dinner, in my opinion, is ASAE's "finest hour." Basile Lemba liked thisBasile Lemba liked thisMost leadership team conflict is not disagreement. It is undefined ownership. Nonprofit executive teams rarely split over the mission. They collide over who decides, who needs to be informed, and what "done" actually looks like. I once watched a grant budget revision bounce between program and finance for six weeks. Nobody opposed it. Nobody knew who signed off. That collision usually shows up quietly: Decisions that loop back to the same meeting three times. Handoffs that drop between programs, finance, and operations. Work done twice because two people thought they owned it. Capable leaders disengaging because their effort keeps getting wasted. This isn't about personalities. It's an alignment gap, and it usually costs more than the decision that started it. Three practices that create real alignment: Name who decides. Every recurring decision gets one owner. Not consensus, not "the team." Everyone else knows whether they advise or are simply informed. Ask what each leader needs. "What do you need from me to do your job well?" The answers are usually smaller and more specific than expected. Make handoffs explicit. What is being passed, in what form, by when. Assumed handoffs are the ones that fail. Alignment doesn't mean agreeing on everything. It means clarity about who owns what, so the team can move without renegotiating every step. What decision does your team keep re-deciding because ownership was never clear? #NonprofitLeadership #TeamAlignment #ExecutiveLeadership

This session is designed specifically for chapters that operate foundations and want to strengthen their nonprofit’s financial capacity. Together, we’ll explore how to build a sustainable revenue model that funds your foundation’s mission without relying solely on grants or membership dues. Through a mix of lecture, workshop, and interactive exercises, you’ll design a customized revenue plan, identify capacity-building activities, and map out a five-year financial forecast. By the end, chapters with foundations will have the clarity, numbers, and next steps to manage programs sustainably and fund community outcomes with confidence. #DoBusiness #FoundationLeadership #NonprofitCapacityBuilding

Big businesses get most of the headlines. Small businesses keep America running. In Texas, 99.8% of all businesses are small businesses. And across rural America, small businesses account for more than half of employment. As a small business owner for more than 14 years, I know both the rewards and the challenges. Yesterday I spoke with small business owners in Brewster County, the largest county in Texas, about a simple question, "Are you spending your time where your customers see the most value?" I shared three ways to think about the work: 1. The basics -- These are the minimum expectations: answering the phone, being open during posted hours, being staffed appropriately, processing payments smoothly, providing accurate information and following through reliably. You don’t get extra credit when these things work. Customers only notice when they don’t. Of course, business owners know that keeping those “basic” things running can sometimes require a Herculean effort. 2. The performance sweet spot -- This is what you’re known for, the part of your business where better performance leads to greater customer satisfaction. You need to be crystal clear about what this is because drift happens easily. And customer expectations change. What distinguished you 10 years ago may be considered standard today. 3. The delighters -- These are the small, unexpected things customers remember: using someone’s name, anticipating a need, solving a problem early or adding a thoughtful personal touch. Delighters don’t have to be expensive or elaborate. They signal that you care. And when customers feel cared for, they come back and tell other people. Here’s the honest question: ❓ How much of your time is being consumed by the basics? For many businesses, the answer is most of it. What could you eliminate, simplify, document, delegate or improve (possibly with AI)? Where could a virtual assistant or a clearer process reduce friction? Then ask yourself what small delighter could we add that our customers would genuinely value? Little things can make a huge difference. Let me know where is your business spending most of its time and what could become one of your delighters? 👇

OWN YOUR LEGACY 31-Day Entrepreneur & Authorpreneur Challenge Presented by Dr. Leroy McKenzie Jr. The Impact Builder Day 25 Daily Focus Own the Collaboration That Multiplies Your Legacy The Impact Builder Standard Legacy is rarely built at its greatest capacity alone. Strategic collaboration allows you to combine expertise, audiences, resources, access, and ideas to create an impact neither party could produce at the same level independently. The goal isn't simply to know more people—it is to build with the right people. Daily Challenge Today, identify ONE person, business, author, organization, or platform whose mission complements what you're building. Not someone who simply has a large following. Look for alignment. Ask yourself: *What do they offer, deliver, or produce that complements what I do? *What do I bring that could strengthen what they're already building? *Do we serve similar people without directly competing for the same solution? *What could we create together that would provide greater value than either of us could create separately? *Could this relationship expand impact, access, resources, revenue, or community for both parties? Now take the challenge beyond networking. Create a simple Collaboration Value Exchange: I BRING: Write three assets you bring to the relationship—expertise, audience, intellectual property, platform, relationships, resources, credibility, technology, distribution, or access. THEY BRING: Identify three complementary assets they possess. WE COULD BUILD: Identify ONE tangible opportunity you could potentially create together—a workshop, event, content series, book initiative, referral relationship, bundled service, community program, strategic alliance, or other mutually beneficial opportunity. Then make the connection today. Don't send: "We should collaborate sometime." Approach them with a clear idea of why the relationship makes sense, what value you bring, and what you believe could be created together. The Impact Builder Challenge Networking asks, “Who do I know?” Collaboration asks, “What can we build together?” Own your legacy by developing relationships that multiply resources, expand access, create opportunities, and produce greater impact. You don't have to own every piece of the ecosystem—you need to know how to strategically connect the pieces so everyone,e becomes stronger.
