Brian Pattillo posted thisIn the fall of 2008, I was preparing to graduate when I heard about a small startup with big plans to revolutionize the insurance industry. After meeting with Mark Jones, I believed deeply that he would make it happen. In the words of Sheryl Sandberg, “If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat. Just get on.” After an incredible 17-year rocket ship ride, I’ve decided to take a long season away to spend time with my family. I leave with nothing but gratitude—for the opportunity, for the relationships, and for so many of you who have been part of this journey. It’s impossible to name everyone, but I wanted to call out just a few of the people who have had a massive impact on my time there. MJ—thank you for taking a bet on me all those years ago and for your constant investment in me over the last 17 years. I am deeply grateful for you and Robyn giving me this opportunity. Julia Jordan—you guys are friends for life and it has been an unreal privilege building this thing with you. Greg Lappo, Jared Sinclair, Matthew Hunt, Jacob Cravens, William Prassas—you guys are the best sales leaders I know and I truly loved leading the sales org with you. To so many friends who helped build this together in the early days—Lauren Menuey, Drew Burks, Gary Delavan, Mike Colby, Matt Colby, Mark Colby, Johnny Preston, Ted Olsen, Michael M., Marissa Brumbeloe Lee Lewis—thank you for recruiting me—everything you told me about this opportunity came true. This position would work closely with a handful of those carriers to optimize results. This is one of the most challenging insurance and housing markets of all time, yet you all just posted over 1 billion in Total Written Premium in Q3. It took us until 2020 to get to 1 billion, and now you did it in a single quarter. Our agents are playing offense and refusing to let these challenges slow them down. In just 6 years, they have built a 14.4 million dollar agency, and my guess is will cross $100 million within the next 6. Truly incredible team, and I am grateful to know each of you. Great trip. It has been an absolute priviledge to watch them build such a great business. In Q2 productivity per franchise was up 54% YoY, and same-stores sales up 29%. Average gross pay to our franchisees was up 62%. AM Best has assigned a Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent) and a Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of “a-” (Excellent) to Dallas Specialty Insurance Company (Dallas, TX). The outlook assigned to these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable. The ratings reflect Dallas Specialty’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management. Dallas Specialty was capitalized initially by Griffin Highline Capital, which will provide operational and additional capital support if needed. The company is a Texas-domiciled, specialty lines-focused insurer launched in early 2025 as part of Griffin Highline’s long-term strategy. Dallas Specialty will enter the market as a reinsurer assuming business produced by OpenRoad Insurance, a Griffin Highline-owned and controlled managing general agent, underwriting collector car insurance.
